Overview

This document provides comprehensive instructions for the installation and use of the Suzuki Front Parking System, part number 990E0-54P56-000, specifically designed for the Suzuki Vitara (LY) model. The manual is available in multiple languages, indicating its global applicability. The estimated fitting time for this system is 1 hour.

Function Description:

The Suzuki Front Parking System is an advanced driver assistance system designed to aid in parking by detecting obstacles in front of the vehicle. It utilizes ultrasonic sensors to measure the distance to obstacles and provides audible warnings to the driver. The system is automatically activated when the ignition is turned ON and remains active as long as the vehicle speed is below approximately 15 km/h. If the speed exceeds 15 km/h, the parking aid is automatically disabled. A LED indicator confirms the system's activation status.

The system provides a stage-by-stage audible alert, with the beeping frequency increasing as the vehicle approaches an obstacle. A continuous tone is emitted when the vehicle is approximately 35-55 cm from an obstacle, indicating the "STOP zone." The detection zones are categorized as "FC" (closest to obstacle, 35 cm), "F1" (60 cm), and "F2" (85 cm).

The system can be manually deactivated by a short press (approx. 1 second) of the button on the LED receptacle, disabling the sensors until the button is pressed again. A long press (approx. 5 seconds) will disable the sensors until the ignition is turned OFF and ON again.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Part Number: 990E0-54P56-000
  • Fitting Time: 1 hour
  • Supply Voltage: 9 => 30 Vdc
  • Current Consumption (system ON): 200mA max.
  • Operating Temperature Range: -30°C => +70°C
  • Ultrasonic Frequency: 40 kHz
  • Detection Zones:
    • FC (Closest Obstacle): 35 cm
    • F1: 60 cm
    • F2: 85 cm
  • Programmable Parameters:
    • Volume of Buzzer: Selectable (OFF, Low, High)
    • Detection Range - Central Sensors: 50-95 cm (Factory default: 90 cm)
    • Detection Range - Outer Sensors: 50-95 cm (Factory default: 50 cm)
    • STOP Zone - Central Sensors: 35-50 cm (Factory default: 50 cm)
    • STOP Zone - Outer Sensors: 35-50 cm (Factory default: 35 cm)
    • Number of Speed Signal Pulses: 1-99 (Factory default: 2)
    • Delay of Sensors Deactivation: 10-60 sec. (Factory default: 00, meaning activated every time ignition is turned ON)
    • Service Display (testing): 0, 1, 3 (0=OFF, 1=Distance from closest obstacle, 3=Vehicle approx. speed)
    • Continuous Detection - Zones F1 and F2: 0, 1 (0=OFF, 1=ON)
    • Sensitivity: 1, 2, 3 (1=Low, 2=Medium, 3=High)

Usage Features:

  • Automatic Activation: The system activates automatically with the ignition ON, indicated by a lit LED.
  • Speed-Dependent Operation: Sensors are active below 15 km/h and automatically disable above this speed.
  • Audible Proximity Warning: Beeping frequency increases as obstacles get closer, with a continuous tone for the STOP zone (35-55 cm).
  • Manual Deactivation: The system can be temporarily disabled via a button on the LED receptacle for situations like queuing.
  • Programmable Settings: Users can customize various parameters such as buzzer volume, detection ranges, STOP zone distances, and sensitivity to suit their preferences. This programming mode is intended for expert users to prevent malfunctions.
  • Factory Reset: The system can be reset to factory default settings by simultaneously pressing both control unit buttons for more than 2 seconds.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to help identify and resolve common issues.
    • Low Power Supply Signal: If the battery level is too low, the buzzer will emit a deep warning tone for 5 seconds, and the LED will blink rapidly, indicating all sensors are inoperative.
    • Faulty Sensors: If one or more sensors are inoperative or disconnected, an audio signal will sound for 3 seconds. If multiple sensors are faulty, the number of faulty sensors will be alternatively displayed on the main control unit (e.g., "E1" for sensor 1, "E4" for sensor 4). A single faulty sensor affects the entire system's functioning.
    • Other Issues:
      • Ice on sensors: Solution is to clean the sensors.
      • Back part of sensors in contact with frame: Solution is to create a separation between the sensors and the vehicle.
  • Self-Diagnosis: The system can indicate if it is defective if the buzzer keeps beeping without an obstacle in front of the vehicle after activation. In such cases, contacting a Suzuki dealer is recommended.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a 24-month warranty against manufacturing defects from the purchase date, provided by a receipt or invoice. The warranty covers repair or replacement of defective parts but excludes labor, transport, and other charges. It does not cover malfunctions due to negligence, improper installation, tampering, or misuse. Installation and connections should only be performed by qualified personnel.

Important Notes and Cautions:

  • Always look around the vehicle while parking; the system is an aid and not a replacement for driver attentiveness.
  • Maintain a slow speed to avoid unexpected hazards.
  • Heavy rain or snow may cause false alerts; this does not necessarily indicate a defective system.
  • Small obstacles (smaller than 35 cm) or objects/materials with low reflectance might not be detected.
  • Disconnect the negative pole of the battery before connecting any wires.
  • All connections must be soldered.
  • Only expert users should modify programming settings to avoid malfunctions.
  • Ensure all parts are included in the kit before installation.
  • Be careful not to damage any vehicle parts during installation.
  • Drill through factory markings on the inside of the bumper using specific drill bits: 18mm for central sensors and 26mm for outer sensors.
  • Clean plastic brackets and apply primer before attaching sensors.
  • Insert sensors in the correct direction, noting that Sensor 1 has the shortest cable and Sensor 4 has the longest.
  • Check cable lengths before final positioning of accessories.
  • The buzzer and push-button with LED indicator can be positioned according to customer request, ensuring the button is readily seen and easily reached.

The manual also includes detailed diagrams for set contents, tools required, installation steps (including bumper removal, drilling, bracket and sensor insertion, cable routing), and wiring diagrams for connecting the control unit, buzzer, and push-button to the vehicle's electrical system (J/B, BCM, fuse box).
