Overview

The SY Electronics OMEGA 3 MFS31-H is a multi-format switcher designed for professional AV installations. It features dual HDBaseT and one HDMI 2.0 input, with a single HDMI output. The device supports various video and audio formats, offering extensive control and diagnostic capabilities for system integration, validation, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The MFS31-H acts as a central hub for switching between multiple video sources and outputting to a display device. It supports two HDBaseT inputs and one HDMI input, with a single HDMI output. A key feature is its ability to de-embed audio, providing both S/PDIF optical Mini-Toslink and analogue L/R outputs. The device also includes pass-through RS232 protocol with the selected HDBaseT transmitter and a separate RS232 port for controlling the MFS31-H's features. It can power remote HDBaseT transmitters via iPoC (Power over Cable) with its 48V power supply.

Usage Features:

  • EDID Control: The device features an EDID switch with multiple pre-defined settings (e.g., auto, 4K60-2.0, 1080P60-2.0, 1024x768, Test Pattern) to ensure compatibility with various displays.
  • HDCP Control: Output HDCP modes can be configured via RS232 commands, including FOLLOW-INPUT (default), FORCE-1.4, FORCE-2.2, and FORCE-OFF.
  • 4K Down-Scaling: Automatically scales 4K (24/25/30/50/60Hz) signals to 1080p for compatibility with 1080p displays. For 4K displays, 4K60 4:4:4 input can be down-scaled to 4K50/60 4:2:0 to stay within 10.2Gbps bandwidth. Options include 4K60-420, 1080P, AUTO, and OFF (default).
  • Video Keep-Alive (VKA): When no signal is detected from the selected input, the device can either output a current Test Pattern (VKA active) or output no timing (VKA off, default).
  • Test Pattern Generation: Useful for testing HDMI output to the display device. Users can select various patterns (BLACK, RED, GREEN, BLUE, WHITE, RAMPs, PRBS, STRIPE, CHECKER-BOARD) and resolutions (4K60, 4K30, 4K25, 4K24, 1080P60, 720P60).
  • Auto/Manual Switching:
    • Manual Mode (default): Inputs are selected by briefly pressing the "Select" button on the front panel or via RS232 commands.
    • Auto Mode: Automatically selects a new active input when detected. If the currently selected input video is lost, it will switch to the next available active input.
  • Input Selection: Inputs (HDMI, HDBT1, HDBT2) can be manually selected via the "Select" button or RS232 commands.
  • Audio De-embedding: Provides both analogue L/R (3.5mm stereo jack) and optical S/PDIF (Mini-Toslink) audio outputs.
  • RS232 Control: Comprehensive control of all features via ASCII commands, including input selection, HDCP modes, scaling, test patterns, and diagnostic functions.
  • CEC Commands: Supports CEC commands for controlling compatible display devices, including Display On/Off, Volume Increase/Decrease, Volume Mute, and querying Display Connection/Power Status.
  • iPoC (Power over Cable): The MFS31-H can power remote HDBaseT transmitters (e.g., SY-HDBT-70-SP-T) using its 48V power supply, eliminating the need for separate power supplies at the transmitter end.
  • Front Panel Indicators: LEDs for Power, Output (active HDMI signal), HDBT 1, HDBT 2, HDMI (current source selected), and AUTO (auto source selection activated). Flashing LEDs indicate no signal on HDBT/HDMI inputs.

Maintenance Features:

  • Diagnostic Commands: A suite of RS232 commands provides valuable diagnostic information for installation and troubleshooting:
    • Cable Length: Reports Cat6 cable length between 20-70m for the currently selected HDBaseT input.
    • Link/Signal Status: Indicates whether the HDBaseT link is active and if a video signal is present on HDMI input/output.
    • Signal Error: Provides an indication of Cat6 signal line quality.
    • Input Signal Details: Detailed information about the selected input video signals, including Resolution, Refresh Rate, Colour Depth, HDR Setting, Compressed Audio Setting, Audio Rate, Audio Channels, HBR, and HDCP.
    • Pulse HPD: Forces the HDMI Hot Plug Detect (HPD) line low for 200ms, simulating a cable disconnection/reconnection.
    • Voltage Value: Reports power supply voltage level measurements.
    • Temperature Read: Reads the internal temperature closest to the main heat source.
  • Safety Temperature Control: Allows setting Power Off, Warning, and Re-Power temperatures (default: 75°C, 70°C, 65°C respectively) to protect the device. This feature can be enabled or disabled via RS232 commands.
  • Installation Precautions: Emphasizes the use of shielded Cat6/6a/7 cables, proper ventilation, and protection against surges and static discharges to ensure reliable operation and long service life.
  • After Sales Service: Provides guidelines for troubleshooting, contacting SY Technical Support (requiring product name, model number, serial number, and fault details), and outlines a two-year standard warranty. The warranty is voided by incorrect usage, storage, unauthorized repairs, or mistreatment.
