Overview

The TBB Power Bi1248-1200 is a bi-directional converter charger designed for vehicles or boats equipped with a dual battery system. Its primary function is to manage power flow between a 12Vdc chassis (starter battery) and a 48Vdc auxiliary battery, ensuring both are appropriately charged and can power their respective loads.

Function Description:

The Bi1248-1200 operates in two main modes:

  1. Charging the 48V Auxiliary Battery (Booster Mode): When the vehicle's engine is running or the alternator is active, the device utilizes the 12Vdc alternator output to charge the 48Vdc auxiliary battery. Simultaneously, it can power the 12Vdc loads.

    • Traditional Alternator Mode: If the starter battery voltage exceeds 13.3V, the device draws power from the alternator to charge the 48V auxiliary battery with a maximum current of 25A. It stops charging when the starter battery voltage drops below 12.8V.
    • Smart Alternator / Euro 6 Mode: This mode can be activated via a DIP switch. In this configuration, an IGN (ignition) signal wire must be connected. The device determines charging based on both the IGN signal and the starter battery voltage. Charging initiates when the IGN signal is active and the starter battery voltage is above 12.2V. Charging ceases when the IGN signal is active and the starter battery voltage falls below 11.6V.
  2. Powering 12Vdc Loads from the 48V Auxiliary Battery (Stepdown Mode): When the engine is off, the device converts 48Vdc from the auxiliary battery to 12Vdc, supplying power to all 12Vdc loads.

The Bi1248-1200 employs a non-isolated conversion topology, achieving high efficiency (up to 94% or above). It utilizes DSP (Digital Signal Processor) control, enabling complex control algorithms for high precision and fast response. The unit features built-in isolated RS485 and CAN communication capabilities, allowing for integration into systems requiring monitoring and control.
