  • RS232 Serial Port: D-SUB 9-pin connector, with a maximum data rate of 115kbps.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Installation: The modem is designed for straightforward integration into host applications. It can be securely attached using two 3mm diameter pan head screws.
  • Flexible Powering: The device can be powered via its RJ11 connector (7V-32V DC) or through the Mini USB port. For optimal performance and to prevent damage, a high-quality power supply cable with low resistance and a fast 2A fuse in line with the positive supply are recommended.
  • Modem Activation: To switch on the modem, power must first be applied to VCC, followed by a high-level signal (> 5V for > 1s) to the TO_IN pin. The modem becomes fully operational after 20 seconds, with network connection potentially taking longer depending on coverage. It can also be configured to start up automatically when power is applied by permanently tying VCC (pin 1) and TO_IN (pin 4) together.
  • SIM Card Handling: A SIM card must be inserted prior to switching on the modem. It is crucial not to insert or remove the SIM card while the device is powered on to avoid damage. The device does not have a SIM card detect feature.
  • Antenna Placement: Proper antenna placement is critical for optimal signal strength and communication. The antenna should be placed away from other electronic devices and antennas, with a recommended minimum distance of 50cm. Using a directional antenna facing the closest radio base station can enhance signal reception.
  • Low Power Mode: The modem supports a low power mode, which can be enabled via AT commands (AT#CFUN=5). This feature is useful for battery-powered applications to conserve energy.
  • Status LEDs: The LT910-WW includes three LEDs: a green STAT_LED (GPIO 01) indicating operating states (device off, net search, registered full service, low power mode) and two configurable LEDs, a yellow DEBUG_LED1 (GPIO 03) and a red DEBUG_LED2 (GPIO 02). These can be controlled via AT commands to signal various application statuses, such as error indications, communication status (LTE, GPRS, SMS, CSD), network status, and quality of service.
  • RS232 Communication: The RS232 serial port provides a standard interface for communication with a host system, supporting AT commands for configuration and control.
  • USB Connectivity: The Mini USB port allows for data communication and can also supply power to the modem. Drivers for Windows Desktop and Linux are available for download from the Telic AG website.

Maintenance Features:

  • Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) Updates: The modem supports FOTA for software updates, allowing for remote maintenance and upgrades to ensure the device runs the latest firmware with bug fixes and new features.
  • Power Off Command: The modem can be safely powered off using the AT command AT#SHDN, which is the preferred method for graceful shutdown.
  • Environmental Considerations: The modem should be installed in an environment that meets the specified temperature, humidity, and vibration conditions (Section 2.4 "Product Features and Technical Data"). Adequate air circulation is necessary to prevent overheating, especially during regular transmission.
  • Cable and Connector Quality: Using high-quality, low-loss 50 Ohm impedance cables and connectors is essential to minimize RF losses and ensure reliable communication. The antenna cable should be as short as possible, and the use of extension cables, connectors, and adapters should be minimized.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance on troubleshooting, including checking signal strength using the AT+CSQ command and understanding LED indicators for various operating states.
  • Safety Instructions: The manual emphasizes safety precautions, including warnings about electrostatic discharge and the importance of proper installation and handling to prevent damage to the device and ensure user safety. It also highlights the need to avoid exposing the modem to open flames or extreme heat.
  • Network and Subscription: Users are advised to ensure their chosen network provides the necessary telecommunication services and that their subscription includes features like SMS if intended for use.
  • Antenna Selection: The manual recommends consulting the antenna manufacturer for additional information on antenna type, cables, connectors, placement, and grounding requirements to optimize performance.

The Telic LT910-WW is a robust and flexible solution for M2M communication, offering a comprehensive set of features for integration into various applications while emphasizing ease of use and reliable operation.
