Do you have a question about the Tenmars TM-288 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The TENMARS TM-288 is a compact heat stress WBGT (Wet Bulb Globe Temperature) meter designed to provide real-time alarms to prevent heatstroke in moist heat environments. It measures WBGT, air temperature (TEMP), black-globe temperature (TG), and relative humidity (RH).

Function Description:

The TM-288 measures and displays the WBGT index, which is a composite temperature used to estimate the effect of temperature, humidity, wind speed, and visible and infrared radiation on humans. It features an alarm function that can be set to turn on or off, with user-definable alarm values. The device supports both outdoor (OUT) and indoor (IN) measurement modes. It also indicates heat hazard levels (Caution, Extreme Caution, Danger, Extreme Danger) based on the measured WBGT and provides corresponding audible alarms (beep for 4 seconds, beep for 15 seconds, or beep for 3 seconds with a 2-second pause, repeating for 15 seconds). The alarm will repeatedly activate every minute if the temperature continuously exceeds the baseline.

Important Technical Specifications:

Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT):

  • Measuring range: 0 to 50.0 °C (32.0 to 122.0 °F)

  • Tolerance range (15-40°C): ±0.6 °C (±1.1 °F)

Black-Globe Temperature (TG):

  • Measuring range: 0 to 80.0 °C (32.0 to 176.0 °F)
  • Resolution: 0.1
  • Tolerance range (15-40°C): ±0.6 °C (±1.1 °F)

Humidity (%RH):

  • Measuring range: 30.0 to 90.0 %RH

Usage Features:

The TM-288 offers three primary ways of use:

  1. Wearable Type: The meter can be attached to a flexible armband using a fastening kit and worn on the arm, suitable for outdoor sports enthusiasts.
  2. Hanging Type: A silicone elbow and screw can be attached to the meter, allowing it to be hung on a waist, backpack, or baby stroller handle using a carabiner.
  3. Tripod Application: The meter features a UNC 1/4 tripod nut on the back, allowing it to be mounted on a tripod for outdoor measurements or clamped to a bicycle.

Operation:

  • Power On/Off: Press the power/setting button to turn the device on or off.
  • Setting OUT/IN and Alarm ON/OFF Mode: Press and hold the TG and Up buttons for 2 seconds to enter SET1. Use the Up or Down buttons to select OUT/IN, then press the power button to enter SET2. In SET2, use the Up or Down buttons to turn the alarm on or off. If the alarm is ON, the "Alarm User" indicator will flash. Press the power button to enter SET3 (skipped if the alarm is OFF). In SET3, use the Up or Down buttons to set the alarm value. Press the power button again to exit settings. If the setting period exceeds 15 seconds, it will return to measurement mode.
  • Calibration Mode: In shutdown state, press and hold the TG and power buttons. Then press the TG or Down button to enter calibration mode. Press the power button to confirm, and use the TG or Down button to increase or decrease temperature and humidity data.
  • Reset to Factory Settings: In shutdown state, press and hold the TG and Down buttons for 5 seconds. The device will power on, displaying all icons, and then show the hardware version, indicating that all calibration and settings have been reset to factory defaults.
  • Switching °C/°F: In shutdown status, press and hold the Down button, then press the power button for more than 3 seconds to power on. While in the power-on state, you can switch between °F and °C.
  • Alarm Mode (Loudness/Quiet/Off): Click the Down button to cycle through loudness, quiet, and mute (buzzer without display) alarm modes.
  • Switching TEMP/TG: Click the TG button to switch between displaying air temperature (TEMP) and black-globe temperature (TG). It will automatically return to TEMP after 5 seconds.

Maintenance Features:

  • Low Battery Indication: A low battery icon (a battery symbol with a plus sign and a minus sign) on the LCD indicates that the battery is low and needs immediate replacement to ensure accuracy.
  • Cleaning: Use a soft cloth, such as a glasses cloth, to wipe the meter. Avoid using chemical solvents.
  • Long-Term Storage: If not used for a long time, remove the battery to prevent leakage of battery fluid, which can corrode internal components.
  • Malfunction: In case of malfunction, the meter should only be sent to authorized service suppliers or back to the original factory for maintenance.
  • High Humidity Environment: When working in a high humidity environment, keep the meter in a low humidity environment for 24 hours after use.

Battery Replacement:

  1. Turn off the power.
  2. Uninstall the bracket and open the battery cover on the back of the meter.
  3. Remove the old CR2032 battery.
  4. Install a new CR2032 battery, ensuring correct polarity (positive and negative positions).
  5. Replace the battery cover and the bracket.

Product Disposal:

The device and its accessories are marked with a symbol indicating that they must be separated and processed properly, implying adherence to electronic waste disposal guidelines.
