LUBRICATION
ENGINE
For full lubricating instructions refer to engine manufacturer’s manual.
GEARBOX
In operation the gear box lubricant is in a fluid state. When the machine is stopped the
lubricant returns to its normal gel state. It will only be necessary to inspect the sealed
components if the outside of the gear box gets too oily or otherwise shows evidence of a
leak. If this happens, clean the machine thoroughly and look for leaks. Effect necessary
repairs immediately. Use SHELL TIVELA COMPOUNDS A (400 gr.) gear oil or
equivalent to top up the gear box after any maintenance to the internal components.
SPIDER PLATE
By experience we know that the major problem with power trowels results from lack of
lubrication. The trowel arm on the spider plate does not require lubrication. If a trowel
arm becomes jammed, this is probably due to an arm being bent which will require
replacement.
ENGINE MAINTENANCE
Engine life will be extended by maintaining a clean engine. Keep air filter clean at all
times. Wash the element in non-oil based solvent. Let the filter dry before re-installing it
in the air cleaner.
SPARK PLUG
Check and clean the spark plug regularly. A fouled, dirty or carboned spark plug causes
hard starting and poor engine performance. Set spark plug according to the recommended
clearance.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Clean the machine after each use to prevent hardening of sludge. Hard concrete is
difficult to remove, greatly increases the weight and reduces efficient operation of the
machine. Avoid spilling solvents used in cleaning, on any of the machine’s rubber parts
such as “V” belts, seals, bearings etc.
DAILY
Check engine oil
Check air filter
Check blade pitch adjustment for proper operation.
Check blade bolts for tightness.
