Overview

The document describes the TI-GRAPH LINK™ for Windows® for the TI-73 Condensed Guidebook, a software and cable system designed to facilitate communication and data transfer between a personal computer (PC) and a TI-73 graphing calculator.

Function Description:

TI-GRAPH LINK enables users to manage and transfer various types of data between a TI-73 calculator and a Windows-based PC. Its primary functions include:

  • Receiving Files from TI-73: Users can transfer programs, data files, and other items from their TI-73 calculator to the PC. This allows for saving, archiving, and further manipulation of calculator data on the computer. The software provides options to receive individual files or group multiple files together. It also handles special characters in file names and prompts for actions (overwrite, rename, skip) if incoming files have the same name as existing ones on the PC.
  • Sending Files to TI-73: Conversely, the system allows users to send files (programs, data, etc.) from the PC to the TI-73 calculator. This is useful for loading new applications, sharing data, or restoring calculator content. Similar to receiving, it manages potential file name conflicts and locked files on the calculator.
  • Printing Files: TI-GRAPH LINK supports printing of TI-73 program or data files. Users can print files that are currently open in an Edit or Data window, or print saved TI-73 files directly from their stored locations on the PC. The software utilizes the standard Windows Print dialogue box for selecting print options.
  • Backup and Restore: A key feature is the ability to create a comprehensive backup of a TI-73 calculator. This involves receiving all files from the calculator and saving them as a single "group file" on the PC. This group file can then be sent back to a TI-73 to restore its contents, providing a convenient way to safeguard data or set up multiple calculators with the same configuration.
  • Screen Capture: The "Get Screen" function allows users to capture and display the current contents of the TI-73 calculator's screen on the PC. This is useful for troubleshooting, creating documentation, or demonstrating calculator functions.
  • Communication Link Management: The software provides tools to select the correct serial communication port (Com Port 1-4) and cable type (Windows/Macintosh Gray Cable or Windows Only Black Cable) to establish a reliable connection between the PC and the TI-73.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Connection Setup: Users must manually select the correct serial port and cable type from the "Link" menu to establish communication.
  • File Management: The software allows users to browse directories on the PC to locate files for sending or to specify where received files should be saved.
  • Group File Functionality: The option to save multiple files as a "group file" simplifies backup and transfer operations, especially for restoring a calculator's entire state.
  • Error Handling: The system provides error messages and troubleshooting tips if a communication link cannot be established, guiding users to check cable connections, port settings, and cable type selection.
  • File Naming Conventions: It handles special characters in TI-73 file names by prompting for substitute names when transferring to the PC.
  • Conflict Resolution: When sending or receiving files with duplicate names, the software prompts the user to overwrite, rename, skip, or cancel the operation, providing control over data integrity.

Maintenance Features:

  • Backup and Restore: The ability to create and restore full calculator backups serves as a primary maintenance feature, allowing users to recover data in case of calculator issues or to easily transfer configurations between devices.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The guidebook includes basic troubleshooting steps for connection issues, such as verifying cable connections, serial port selection, and cable type.
  • Software Installation: Clear instructions are provided for installing the TI-GRAPH LINK software from either a CD-ROM or a 3½-inch diskette, ensuring proper setup on the PC.
  • Product Support: The document provides contact information (e-mail: ti-cares@ti.com, internet: http://www.ti.com/calc) for TI Product and Services Information, and advises users to refer to the warranty statement or contact their local retailer/distributor for service and warranty details.
