Toremoveauserharddiskpasswordthathasbeenforgotten,whenthesupervisorpasswordandmaster
harddiskpasswordareknown,dothefollowing:
1.Turnonthecomputer.
2.Whenthelogoscreencomesup,immediatelypressF1toentertheThinkPadSetupprogram.
3.SelectSecurity.
4.SelectPassword.
5.SelectHard-diskxpassword,wherexistheletteroftheharddiskdrive.Apop-upwindowopens.
6.SelectMasterharddiskpassword.
7.TypethecurrentmasterharddiskpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordfield.ThenleavetheEnter
NewPasswordfieldblank,andpressEntertwice.
8.PressF10.
9.PressF10tosavechangesandexittheThinkPadSetupprogram.Theuserharddiskpasswordandthe
masterharddiskpasswordhavebeenremoved.
Powermanagement
Toreducepowerconsumption,thecomputerhasthreepowermanagementmodes:screenblank,sleep,
andhibernation.
Screenblankmode(forWindows7only)
Ifthetimesetonthe“Turnoffmonitor”timerintheoperatingsystemexpires,theLCDbacklightturnsoff.
Toputthecomputerintoscreenblankmode,dothefollowing:
1.Right-clickthebatterygaugeonthetaskbar.
2.SelectPoweroffdisplay.
Toendscreenblankmodeandresumenormaloperation,pressanykey.
Sleepmode
Whenthecomputerenterssleepmode,thefollowingeventsoccurinadditiontowhatoccursinscreen
blankmode:
•TheLCDispoweredoff.
•Theharddiskdriveorsolid-statedriveispoweredoff.
•Themicroprocessorstops.
Toputyourcomputerintosleepmode,pressFn+4ordothefollowing:
•ForWindows7:ClickthearrowbesidetheShutdownicon,andthenselectSleep.Toreturnfrom
sleepmode,presstheFnkey.
•ForWindows8andWindows8.1:Movethepointertothebottom-rightcornerofthescreentodisplaythe
charms.ThenclickSettings➙Power➙Sleep.
Toreturntonormaloperation,presstheFnkeyonly.
Incertaincircumstances,thecomputergoesintosleepmodeautomatically:
•Afteraperiodofinactivityspecifiedinpowerplansettings
•Whenthebatterypowerislow
