Dear Customer,
We are delighted that you have decided to
purchase one of our roofboxes. We hope your
use of the roofbox brings you a lot of pleasure.
What is important in this connection, however, is
that you carefully study and observe these usage
instructions prior to mounting the roofbox!
Have fun with your new roofbox!
Prior to mounting of roofbox
This roofbox fits on all standard roof racks with the
following tubular strut dimensions:
Width max. 80 mm / Height 18 – 35 mm.
First mount the roof rack on your vehicle giving
due consideration to the vehicle manufacturers
instructions and the mounting instructions for the
given roof rack. The distance – centre to centre
– between the two rack transverse struts can measure
between 575 mm and 975 mm. You should always
select the largest distance possible between them.
For mounting the roofbox on racks with slotted
sections (T-slot rail sections), we offer special
adapter kits, which can be purchased from specialist
stockists or directly from the manufacturer.
1 - 3: Alignment of roofbox
Your roofbox is equipped with an adjustable quick-
fit Thule Power-Grip
® mounting system, enabling
the roofbox to be mounted quickly and easily
without any tools. Four adjustable Thule Power-
Grip® fixing units are pre-installed in the bottom of
the roofbox.
After you have unpacked the roofbox and opened
the lid, turn the Thule Power-Grip
® fixing elements
in an anticlockwise direction until completely open
(Fig. 1).
Position the roofbox centrally on the roof rack
(Fig. 2 + 3). In the case of vehicles with a tailgate,
position the roofbox and/or roof rack on the vehicle
such that the roofbox does not prevent the tailgate
from being opened freely.
Locate the Thule Power-Grip
® fixing units in a
central position vis-à-vis the rack sections. (It is
helpful if they are positioned manually prior to
fixing them to the given rack section).
4: Fixing roofbox in place
Check that all four Thule Power-Grip® fixing
elements are correctly positioned and centred (in
the case of asymmetrical and broad rack sections,
corrections may be necessary) and turn them all
firmly in a clockwise direction (4 Nm). This force
can be achieved manually without tools. Once the
fixing elements have been turned shut, both claws
of the Thule Power-Grip
® fixing system should fit
tightly around the rack.
Now check that your roofbox is fixed firmly and
securely. Contact your specialist stockist in case of
doubt.
If the roofbox has been fixed in place either
inadequately or only partially, it is not securely
connected to the roof rack and may not be used.
There is a risk that the roofbox may slide off the roof
en route and cause a serious accident!
You can open your roofbox from either side; to do
so, however, the side you don’t want to open must
first be locked with the appropriate key! When
opening the roofbox, check therefore that the locking
system on the opposite side is engaged.
For reasons of safety, the roofbox must be mounted
such that it can be loaded and unloaded from the
passenger side of the vehicle! The person loading or
unloading the roofbox may not do so while standing
on the road!
5: Transportation of goods
The goods to be transported must be held firmly
with suitable securing straps (supplied as standard
and available as accessories if more or needed).
If skis are to be transported, they have to be properly
secured using ski holders and securing straps
(available as accessories).
Order numbers for ski holders:
Spirit 780 = Item no. 709
Spirit 820 = Item no. 708
6: Loading of roofbox
When loading the roofbox, ensure that the load is
well distributed (heaviest load in the middle) and
is not too high for the closed roofbox. Should this
be the case and the load presses against the lid, the
roofbox could be damaged and may not be securely
locked.
The maximum payload of the roofbox is 75 kg.
Under no circumstances should the maximum
roof load of your vehicle be exceeded (see vehicle
manufacturers operating instructions)!
7: Opening and closing of roofbox
To unlock the roofbox, press the lid down slightly
and, at the same time, turn the key in the direction
shown by the arrow. The key cannot be removed
from the lock as long as the roofbox is unlocked.
To lock the roofbox, press the lid down slightly and
turn the key in an anticlockwise direction. The key
can only be removed from the lock if the roofbox is
locked.
