The FST11 SupplyMaster is a 24-hour fused spur time switch designed for controlling various household appliances and heating systems. It serves as a combined connection unit and timeswitch, capable of replacing an existing single-gang connection unit or fixed appliance outlet. This device provides both switched mains and switched/timed mains outputs, all protected by a BS1362 fuse. It is suitable for use with combination boilers, storage heaters, convector heaters, water heaters, washing machines, and dishwashers, allowing users to manage energy consumption efficiently, particularly for Economy Seven electricity tariffs.
The FST11 operates as a programmable timer, allowing users to set specific ON/OFF times for connected appliances. It supports up to four ON/OFF programmes per day, providing flexibility in scheduling. The unit features a double-pole switch and an integral BS1362 fuse for safety. It can be wired directly into a ring main or terminate a spur off a ring main. The device offers both a normal switched output and a timeswitch output, catering to different control needs. For combination boilers, it provides a timed output for heating control and a continuous output for the boiler system itself. Terminals 1 and 2 can offer true voltage-free contacts for extra-low voltage controls. When used with storage heaters, the timed output can manage charging, while the continuous output can be paired with a room temperature control for the fan. For lighting applications, it can replace a standard light switch, provided a neutral connection is available, and can control up to 2.5kW filament or 500W fluorescent lighting. For other energy-consuming appliances, it enables timed operation without the need for a plug and socket, reducing the risk of overheating.
The FST11 is designed for user-friendly operation with a simple two-button programming interface: "Change" and "Program." The "Change" button is used to set hours and minutes, and also acts as a self-cancelling override. Holding this button down enables rapid selection of times. During normal operation, it can change the output status (ON/OFF) and indicate an override by flashing. The "Program" button is recessed to prevent accidental changes and is used to select the clock time and the four ON/OFF programme times, as well as to review them. Holding this button down allows for rapid selection of the next programmes or a quick exit from programming mode.
The device features an easy-to-view 24-hour digital clock/timer display that shows the current time and the output status (ON or OFF). In normal operating mode, the display shows the correct time with a flashing colon and the output status. The shortest switching time is 1 minute. A manual override function allows the user to temporarily override the programmed schedule until the next programme change.
To set the clock, the user presses the "Change" button to advance the hour, then presses "Program" to select minutes, and uses "Change" again to advance minutes. Programme times are set similarly. Any unused ON/OFF programmes can be skipped during programming. The unit will not switch ON immediately if a clock time falls within a programmed ON period after setting; the override facility must be used to switch it ON initially.
The FST11 can be reset to clear all programmes from memory by pressing and holding both setting buttons until the display goes blank. This action also resets the time controller, preparing it for new programming. Programme review is possible by pressing and holding the "Program" button. Programmes can also be cancelled by clearing their ON and OFF times, which involves setting the hour digits to "--" and then pressing "Program."
The FST11 incorporates several features for ease of maintenance and long-term reliability. It has an integral double-pole switch and uses a BS1362 fuse, which is replaceable from the front of the unit. A 13A fuse is supplied with the unit to protect the cabling to the load and the FST11 itself. The device includes a 1000-hour rechargeable memory backup, ensuring that programmed settings are retained in the event of a power supply loss or fuse blow. If the mains power is switched off for more than one month, the display may go blank, in which case the unit needs to be switched on for 30 minutes and then reset.
The unit is designed to fit onto a standard single-gang wall box with a minimum depth of 25mm. It can also be modified to have a flying lead output, in which case an adaptor plate is fitted between the SupplyMaster unit and the plaster depth box using longer screws. The device includes a connector for maintaining earth continuity, which can be positioned as needed. The installation process involves cutting cable tails to length, stripping sleeving and insulation, and tightening screw terminals. Cable clamps are provided for strain relief for flexible cables.
