AdjustingtheServiceBrakes
Adjusttheservicebrakeswhenthereismorethan1in.
(25mm)of“freetravel"ofthebrakepedal,orwhenthe
brakesdonotworkeffectively.Freetravelisthedistance
thebrakepedalmovesbeforebrakingresistanceisfelt.
1.Disengagethelockinglatchfromthebrakepedalsso
thatbothpedalsworkindependentlyofeachother.
2.Toreducefreetravelofthebrakepedals,tighten
thebrakes:
A.Loosenthefrontnutonthethreadedendofthe
brakecable(
Figure79).

B.Tightentherearnuttomovethecablebackward
untilthebrakepedalshave1/2to1in.(13to
25mm)offreetravel.
C.Tightenthefrontnutsafterthebrakesare
adjustedcorrectly.

Checktheconditionandtensionofthebelts(Figure80)
afterevery100operatinghours.
1.Propertensionwillallow3/8in.(10mm)deection
whenaforceof10lb.isappliedonthebeltmidway
betweenthepulleys.
2.Ifthedeectionisnot3/8in.(10mm),loosen
thealternatormountingbolts(
Figure80).Increase
ordecreasethealternatorbelttensionandtighten
thebolts.Checkthedeectionofthebeltagainto
ensurethatthetensioniscorrect.
