What to do if my Toro 04351 Lawn Mower engine fails to crank?
    • C
      Christopher BlakeSep 3, 2025
If the engine of your Toro Lawn Mower fails to crank no matter the position of the shift selector or mow pedal, several issues could be at fault. The battery terminals might be corroded, so clean them. The mow/lift switch, traction switch, and/or seat switch may be adjusted incorrectly or damaged. The mow/lift or traction switch wires could be loose. The battery might be dead, requiring a charge or replacement. A solenoid or the ignition switch could be damaged, necessitating replacement. The starter may be damaged, needing replacement or repair. The engine could be seized, requiring engine repair. The key switch, voltmeter, or solenoid wires might be loose, so connect them. Finally, ensure the operator is on the seat.

If all three cutting units raise and lower too slowly, the lift cylinder and linkages may be binding due to lack of lubrication. Lubricate more frequently.

    • S
      Steven ParkerAug 31, 2025
If the cutting units lift too slowly, the rear camshaft may be misadjusted, the #1 spool travel could be restricted by the mow/lift switch, or the lift check poppet in the #1 spool section might be stuck partially closed. Adjust the camshaft, adjust the switch, or remove the lift check and repair or replace it.

What to do if my Toro 04351 Lawn Mower has no traction or is slow in all selections?
    • P
      Pamela JordanAug 30, 2025
If there is no traction or it is slow in all selections and the reels are affected, the oil level in the reservoir may be low, the shift lever bracket may be loose, the rear camshaft may be misadjusted or the engine lacks power. Add oil to the proper level, adjust and tighten the shift lever, adjust the camshaft, and repair the engine as necessary.

What if my Toro Lawn Mower cranks but doesn't start in neutral?
    • R
      Robert MathisAug 27, 2025
If your Toro Lawn Mower engine cranks but doesn't start when the shift selector and mow pedal are in neutral, first, all interlock switches are okay, proceed to the next cause. The rear camshaft might be misadjusted, so adjust it. The engine or rectifier plug could be loose, so connect the wire. The “I” terminal wire of the key switch may also be loose, so connect the wire. There may be engine trouble, or the fuel tank might be empty; determine the problem and correct it. Lastly, the parking brake kill relay could be damaged, so replace the relay.

    • T
      Troy MarshallAug 26, 2025
If the engine cranks but does not start when the shift selector and mow pedal are in neutral, the cause may be unrelated to the interlock wiring system. The rear camshaft might be misadjusted, the engine or rectifier plug could be loose, the 'I' terminal wire of the key switch may be loose, there might be engine trouble or the fuel tank could be empty, or the parking brake kill relay may be damaged. Adjust the camshaft, connect the wire, determine the problem and correct it, or replace the relay.

      Alyssa MillerAug 25, 2025
If your Toro Lawn Mower engine won't start, the issue could stem from a faulty ignition system or an empty fuel tank. The starter system might also be malfunctioning, or there could be a problem with the carburetor fuel solenoid. Fill the fuel tank, check the connections, solenoid, starter motor, and ignition switch. Check the solenoid and wiring.
