Fuel Safety Precautions

Gasoline is extremely flammable and highly explosive. Use extra care when handling gasoline and other fuels.

Safety Interlock System Function

Prevents engine starting unless blades are disengaged and levers are in park. Stops engine if operator rises from seat with blades engaged.

Before Starting Procedures

Recommended fuel: UNLEADED Regular Gasoline (87 pump octane minimum). Do not use methanol or gasohol over 10% ethanol.

Fuel Stabilizer/Conditioner Usage

Use a fuel stabilizer/conditioner to keep gasoline fresh during storage and clean the fuel system.

Filling the Fuel Tank

Park machine, shut off engine, controls in park. Fill tank to bottom of filler neck. Do not overfill.

Checking Engine Oil Level

Check oil level before starting. Ensure engine is stopped, level, and cool. Check dipstick level.

Starting the Engine

Sit on seat, levers in park, blades disengaged. Move throttle to Choke for cold start. Release key after engine starts.

Operating the Mower Blades

Blade control switch engages and disengages power to mower blades and attachments. Controls PTO.

Engaging the Mower Blades

Release motion control levers to neutral. Move throttle to Fast. Pull up blade control switch to On.

Disengaging the Mower Blades

Push down on blade control switch to move to Off position and disengage the blades.

Testing the Safety Interlock System

Test system before each use. If it does not operate as described, have dealer repair it immediately.

Stopping the Engine

Disengage blades, move throttle to Fast/half throttle, turn ignition key to Off and remove key.

Driving the Mower

Zero turn radius mowers turn independently. Use caution when making turns; slow down before sharp turns.

Forward Driving Operation

Move levers to center unlocked. Push levers forward to go forward. Apply equal pressure for straight movement.

Backward Driving Operation

Move levers to center unlocked. Pull levers rearward to go backward. Look behind you and down.

Smart Speed System Usage

Lever provides choice of high/low speed ranges. Useful for maneuvering in tight spaces or delicate landscapes.

Stopping the Mower Machine

Move levers to neutral/park, disengage blades, ensure throttle is fast, turn ignition key off. Remove key.

Adjusting Mower Deck Height

Use height-of-cut lever to raise or lower deck. Adjust only while machine is not moving. Transport position is 4.5 inches.

Positioning the Operator Seat

Loosen adjustment bolts, move seat for comfort, tighten bolts. Adjust for operator comfort.

To Operate the Mower

Move bypass levers inward to engage wheel motors. Push back in horizontal slot to operate.

Grass Deflector Function

Hinged deflector disperses clippings. Never remove it. Replace if damaged.

Operating Tips

Fast Throttle Setting: Operate engine at Fast for best mowing and air circulation. Avoid cutting too low.

First Time Lawn Cutting

Cut grass slightly longer than normal to ensure acceptable quality of cut. Adjust cutting height as needed.

Grass Cutting Depth

Best to cut only about 1/3 of the grass blade. Cutting more is not recommended unless grass is sparse.

Mowing Direction Technique

Alternate mowing direction to keep grass standing straight. Helps disperse clippings for decomposition.

Mowing Interval Recommendations

Normally mow every four days. Adjust frequency based on grass growth rate for best results.

Avoiding Cutting Too Low

Raise cutting height if mower width is wider than previous mower to avoid scalping uneven turf.

Cutting Long Grass

If grass is longer than normal, raise cutting height higher than usual and cut. Then cut again at normal setting.

Stopping Mower Mid-Mow

To avoid clumps, move onto a previously cut area with blades engaged when stopping forward motion.

Cleaning Mower Underside

Clean clippings and dirt from underside after each use. Poor cleaning affects cutting quality.

Blade Maintenance Essentials

Maintain sharp blades for clean cuts. Check daily for sharpness, wear, or damage. Replace if damaged.

Adjusting the Motion Control Levers

Adjusting Lever Height

Levers can be adjusted higher or lower for operator comfort. Move to next set of holes and secure with bolts.

Adjusting Lever Tilt

Levers can be tilted fore or aft for operator comfort. Loosen bolts, pivot, tighten to secure.

Pushing Machine By Hand

Park machine, disengage blade switch. Raise seat, move bypass levers forward to disengage wheel motors.
