Overview

This document provides a comprehensive service manual for Toshiba Carrier's Multi Type Air Conditioner, specifically the High Wall indoor unit models MMK-AP0054MHP1-E1, MMK-AP0074MHP1-E1, MMK-AP0094MHP1-E1, MMK-AP0124MHP1-E1, MMK-AP0054MHP1-TR1, MMK-AP0074MHP1-TR1, MMK-AP0094MHP1-TR1, and MMK-AP0124MHP1-TR1. It details installation, operation, control, and troubleshooting procedures.

Function Description

The Toshiba Multi Type Air Conditioner is designed for both cooling and heating operations, utilizing R410A refrigerant, which does not deplete the ozone layer. The system includes various control functions to optimize comfort and energy efficiency.

  • Operation Modes: The unit supports STOP, FAN, COOL, DRY, HEAT, and AUTO modes. In AUTO mode, the system automatically selects cooling or heating based on room temperature (Ta) and set temperature (Ts).
  • Room Temperature Control: Set temperatures can be adjusted within a range of 18 to 29°C for wired remote controllers and 17 to 30°C for wireless remote controllers in both cooling/drying and heating modes. Heating suction temperature can be shifted by +0°C, +2°C, +4°C, or +6°C.
  • Automatic Capacity Control: The operation frequency of the outdoor unit varies based on the difference between room temperature (Ta) and set temperature (Ts).
  • Air Volume Control: Air speed can be set to "HIGH (HH)", "MED (H)", "LOW (L)", or "AUTO". In AUTO mode, air speed adjusts based on the difference between Ta and Ts.
  • Prevention of Cold Air Discharge: During heating, the upper limit of the fan tap is set based on TC2 and TCJ sensor temperatures to prevent cold air discharge. The fan may operate at a breeze speed or remain stationary during defrosting.
  • Freeze Prevention Control (Low Temp. Release): In cooling operation, the air conditioner stops to prevent the heat exchanger from freezing based on TC1, TC2, and TCJ sensor readings.
  • Cooling Oil (Refrigerant) Recovery Control: The indoor units open the PMV to a certain degree and engage in recovery control for a specified period, typically every 2 hours, to recover cooling oil.
  • Heating Refrigerant (Oil) Recovery Control: Similar to cooling oil recovery, the indoor units open the PMV and control the indoor fan according to the operation mode to recover heating refrigerant, typically every hour.
  • Short Intermittent Operation Compensation Control: For 5 minutes after operation starts, the unit continues to operate even if the thermostat-OFF condition is met, unless system protective control or cooling/heating exchange precedes it.
  • Elimination of Remaining Heat: After stopping in HEAT mode, the indoor fan runs at LOW mode for approximately 30 seconds to eliminate remaining heat.
  • Flap Control: Flap position can be set up for cooling/dry, heating/fan, and swing operations. In group operation, flaps can be set collectively or individually. The flap automatically closes when the unit stops and moves upward when heating operation is ready.
  • Filter Sign Display: The remote controller LCD displays a filter exchange signal after a specified integrated operation time (150H, 2500H, 5000H, or 10000H).
  • Operation Standby/Heating Standby: Displays "OPERATION STANDBY" or "HEATING STANDBY" on the wired remote controller under specific conditions, such as detection of an open phase, indoor flooding, interlock alarms, or when the system is engaged in heat refrigerant recovery.
  • Central Control Mode Selection: Allows determining the range of operations that can be performed via an indoor unit remote controller through settings on the central controller.
  • Hi POWER Operation: Increases cooling capacity by lowering the set temperature by 1°C or heating capacity by raising it by 2°C. Fan speed may also increase.
  • ECO Timer Operation: In cooling, prevents overcooling by raising the set temperature by 1°C after 1 hour and 2°C after 2 hours. In heating, prevents overheating by lowering the set temperature by 1°C after 1 hour and 2°C after 2 hours.
  • MEMORY Operation: Allows memorizing preferred operation settings (MODE, Temperature, FAN, TIMER, Hi POWER) for quick recall.
  • PRESET Operation: Activates the air conditioner with memorized settings.
  • DC Motor Control: The DC fan motor performs positioning at startup and operates according to commands from the indoor controller.
  • Save Operation: Restricts request capacity ratio to approximately 75% to save energy.
  • Remote Location ON/OFF Control: Allows external start/stop control and provides operation/error signals.
  • Ventilating Fan Control: Enables start/stop operation of an air-to-air heat exchanger or ventilating fan from the wired remote controller, even if the indoor unit is not operating.
  • Leaving-ON Prevention Control: Controls indoor units individually, stopping operation if a card is removed from a card switch box or prohibiting start/stop from the remote controller.
  • Power Peak-Cut: Initiates a forced thermostat-OFF operation when a relay is turned on.
  • Sensor Characteristics: Provides detailed resistance values for TA, TC1, TC2, and TCJ sensors at various temperatures.
