This document is an owner's manual for a TOSHIBA Air Conditioner (Split Type), designed for general public use. It covers both indoor and outdoor units, specifically models RAS-18LKH-A and RAS-22LKH-A for indoor units, and RAS-18LAH-A and RAS-22LAH-A for outdoor units.
The air conditioner's primary function is to provide cooling, heating, and dehumidification for indoor spaces. It operates as a split system, meaning it has separate indoor and outdoor units connected by refrigerant lines.
Key Features and Specifications:
- Unit Components:
- Indoor Unit: Features a Room Air Inlet, Air Filter, Active Carbon Filter (optional), Electrostatic Filter (optional), Photo-Catalyst Filter (optional), Remote Control Signal Receiver, Air Swing Flap, Vertical Louver, and Room Air Outlet.
- Outdoor Unit: Includes Outdoor Air Outlet, Outdoor Air Inlet, and connections for the indoor unit and a Drain Hose.
- Control System: The unit is primarily controlled via an LCD Remote Control.
- Power Supply: The remote control uses two 1.5V LR03 (AM4) alkaline batteries. The main unit requires a specific voltage, and using an incorrect voltage can cause damage.
- Operating Modes:
- Automatic Operation: The unit automatically selects COOL or HEAT mode and adjusts fan speed based on indoor conditions to maintain a comfortable room temperature. The initial set temperature in AUTO mode is 25°C.
- Manual Operation: Allows users to manually select modes such as AUTO, DRY, COOL, FAN, and HEAT.
- Timer Operation: Includes ON Timer, OFF Timer, and EVERYDAY Timer functions to schedule unit operation.
- Sleep Timer: Automatically switches off the unit after a set period (1, 2, 3, 7, or 9 hours) and adjusts the set temperature to prevent overcooling or overheating during sleep.
- Fan Mode: Circulates room air only at selected fan speeds (AUTO, LOW, MED, HIGH).
- Dry Mode: Reduces moisture by intermittently operating the compressor and indoor/outdoor fan motors, maintaining the set temperature.
- Airflow Control:
- Flap Control Button: Controls the vertical discharge air flow direction (up and down). It can be set to a fixed position or "SWING" mode for continuous up and down movement.
- Vertical Louver: Can be manually adjusted for left or right discharge air direction after opening the flap.
- Air Cleaning Operation:
- Air Filters: Standard filters remove dust and lint.
- Optional Filters:
- Active Carbon Filter/Photo-Catalyst Filter: Effectively eliminates odors and cigarette smoke. The Photo-Catalyst filter can be washed and refreshed by sunlight.
- Active Carbon Filter/Electrostatic Filter: Effective in eliminating odors and microscopic dust.
- Emergency Operation: If the remote control is lost, damaged, or has discharged batteries, an EMERGENCY button on the indoor unit can be used. This operates the unit automatically in AUTO mode with a preset temperature of 25°C, AUTO fan speed, disabled timer, and automatically set discharge air direction.
- Test Operation: A TEST button is available for service personnel to check unit installation.
Usage Features:
- Remote Control Range: The remote control functions within 5 meters of the indoor unit.
- Temperature Setting: Users can set desired room temperatures using the remote control's TEMP. buttons.
- Fan Speed Selection: Allows selection of AUTO, LOW, MED, or HIGH fan speeds.
- Address Switch: For rooms with two indoor units, an address switch allows linking one remote control to a specific indoor unit.
- Signal Reception: A beeping sound confirms signal reception from the remote control.
- Display Indicators: The indoor unit has a "UNIT ON" (green) light for operation and a "TIMER" (orange) light for reservation mode. The remote control display shows selected mode, temperature, flap modes, timer status, and fan speed.
- Power Failure Recovery: The unit memorizes operating conditions and automatically restarts when power is restored.
Maintenance Features:
- Filter Cleaning: Air filters should be cleaned monthly with a vacuum cleaner or by rinsing under running water.
- Optional Filter Lifespan:
- Active Carbon Filter: Approximately 2 years.
- Electrostatic Filter: Approximately 3 months.
- Photo-Catalyst Filter: Approximately 2 years, can be washed and refreshed by 6 hours of direct sunlight after 3 months of use.
- Front Panel Cleaning: The front panel can be removed and cleaned with water and dried in a shaded area.
- Main Unit Cleaning: Use a damp, soapy towel. Avoid pouring water directly onto the unit or using petrol, solvents, or abrasive powder.
- After-Season Care: Before extended shutdown, clean filters, run the unit on FAN mode for two hours to dry the interior, and clean both indoor and outdoor units.
- Battery Replacement: Replace remote control batteries when the battery indicator appears (within a week). Reset the remote control after battery replacement.
Important Precautions:
- Installation and Servicing: Only trained and qualified service personnel should install or service the equipment.
- Power Safety: Turn off main power before maintenance. Use correct voltage and ensure the power plug is tightly inserted. Do not pull the power cord to unplug.
- Flammable Materials: Do not use flammable sprays near the unit.
- Water Exposure: Never splash indoor or outdoor units with water to avoid electric shock.
- Outdoor Unit Safety: Do not insert hands or objects into the outdoor unit's discharge grille due to high-speed fan operation.
- Fuses: Use only fuses of the proper amperage.
- Comfort and Health: Avoid continuous direct airflow to occupants. Ventilate rooms when stuffy.
- Airflow Obstruction: Do not obstruct discharge grilles to prevent reduced cooling and malfunction.
- Heat Sources: Keep heat sources away from the unit.
- Temperature Settings: Avoid extremely low or high temperature settings to conserve power.
- Flap Adjustment: Always use the remote control to adjust the flap position. Do not manually adjust during SWING operation.
- Direct Sunlight: Prevent direct sunlight from hitting the indoor unit's infrared signal receiver.
- Remote Control Care: Avoid spilling liquid or dropping the remote control.
Operating Conditions (Temperature Ranges):
- COOL Mode: Indoor 21-32°C, Outdoor 21-43°C
- HEAT Mode: Indoor Below 27°C, Outdoor Below 21°C
- DRY Mode: Indoor 17-32°C, Outdoor 12-43°C
Operating outside these ranges for extended periods may lead to malfunction.
Normal Operation Sounds and Behaviors:
- Gurgling Sound: Normal, due to refrigerant flow.
- Bad Smells: Can accumulate from room air; cleaning filters helps.
- Outdoor Fan: May not rotate during heating (defrost mode).
- UNIT ON Lamp Flashing: Indicates malfunction; compressor will stop.
- Creaking Noise: Normal, due to plastic expansion from temperature changes.
