To restore your TP-Link extender to its factory default settings, power on the extender and use a pin to press and hold the RESET button until all LEDs turn on momentarily, then release the button. Alternatively, you can restore the default settings from “System Tools > Restore & Backup” of the extender's Web-based Management page.

Why is my TP-Link Extenders wireless speed slow?
G
gutierrezdanielAug 11, 2025
The wireless transmission rate may slow down, even if the wireless signal is stronger after being repeated by a TL-WA854RE extender because, in compliance with the wireless transmission protocol, all extender devices are set to work in half-duplex instead of full-duplex mode. TP-LINK recommends connecting to the extender when your home network connection is poor, or when you want larger wireless coverage to eliminate “dead zones”.

If you cannot access the web-based configuration page for your TP-Link extender, first check to verify all the connections (either wireless or wired ones) are proper. Then, try to obtain an IP address and gateway; if successful, open your web browser, enter the default domain http://tplinkrepeater.net in the address field and log in. As another option, RESET the device, and then use the default IP address to get into the web-based configuration page and reconfigure the device.
