Overview

The BP2F is a versatile food thermometer designed for accurate temperature measurements in food, adhering to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) standards. It utilizes both an infrared sensor and a temperature probe to ensure comprehensive temperature monitoring. The device is particularly useful for ensuring food safety by monitoring temperatures to prevent the growth of harmful microorganisms, especially within the critical temperature range of 4 °C to 60 °C where germ development can be promoted. To facilitate easy monitoring of safe temperature ranges, the BP2F is equipped with adjustable MIN and MAX alarm functions.

Function Description

The primary function of the BP2F is to measure food temperatures using two distinct methods:

  • Infrared Sensor: This allows for non-contact temperature measurement, ideal for quickly checking surface temperatures of food items without direct physical interaction. The infrared measurement indication (IR TEMP) and IR temperature indication are displayed on the screen, with the measurement value shown in the main display. The device provides a visual cue with a flashing IR measurement indication during active scanning.
  • Temperature Probe: For internal temperature measurements, the device features a fold-out temperature probe. When the probe is inserted into the food, the Probe temperature indication (PRO TEMP) appears on the display, showing the internal temperature. This method is crucial for ensuring that the core temperature of food reaches safe levels.

The device's display provides clear indications of various parameters:

  • Measurement Value Display: Shows the current temperature reading from either the infrared sensor or the temperature probe.
  • Temperature Unit Indication: Displays whether the temperature is measured in °C or °F, which can be toggled by the user.
  • HOLD Indication: Appears when the measurement is paused, freezing the last measured value on the screen for a few seconds.
  • Battery Indication: Shows the current battery status, alerting the user when a battery change is needed.
  • Alarm Limit Indications: Features an Upper alarm limit indication (H = high) and a Lower alarm limit indication (L = low) to visually signal when temperatures exceed or fall below the set thresholds.

The BP2F incorporates an automatic switch-off function to conserve battery life, activating after a period of inactivity. It also includes a hold function to temporarily freeze the displayed measurement.

Usage Features

Operating the BP2F is straightforward, designed for ease of use in food preparation environments.

Getting Started:

  1. Battery Insertion: To power the device, first remove the screw from the battery compartment, then remove the cover. Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Reattach the cover and secure it with the screw.
  2. Device Activation:
    • For infrared measurements, simply press the "Scan" button (4) to switch on the device.
    • For probe measurements, fold out the temperature probe (7) to activate the device. The display will switch on automatically.

Temperature Measurement with Infrared Sensor:

  1. Initiate Scan: Press and hold the "Scan" button (4).
  2. Point and Measure: Aim the infrared sensor (1) at the object whose temperature you wish to measure. The current measured value will be displayed, and the IR measurement indication will flash.
  3. Terminate Measurement: Release the "Scan" button (4). The last measured value will be frozen on the display for approximately 7 seconds, accompanied by the "HOLD" indication. The IR measurement indication will disappear. The device will then switch off automatically after this period.
    • Important Note: Vapours and smoke can affect infrared measurements. Ensure the surface is clean and free of dust, dirt, ice, or similar substances. For highly reflective surfaces, applying matt masking tape or black paint with known emissivity can improve accuracy. The device has a 4:1 distance-to-spot ratio, meaning the measuring spot diameter increases with distance, potentially reducing precision.

Temperature Measurement with Temperature Probe:

  1. Insert Probe: Insert the fold-out temperature probe (7) into the material to be measured by approximately 1 cm.
  2. Read Measurement: The current measured value will be displayed, and the "Probe temperature indication" will appear.
  3. Switch Off: Fold the temperature probe (7) back into the device to switch it off.
    • Caution: The probe is not designed to be used as an ice pick or forcefully pricked into frozen objects, as this can damage the device.

Settings:

The "SET" button (6) allows users to configure various settings:

  • Alarm Limits:
    • Press "SET" once to set the upper alarm limit. Use "Scan" (4) and "LED" (5) buttons to adjust the value. Press "SET" again to save.
    • Press "SET" again to enable or disable the upper alarm limit. "ON" or "OFF" will flash. Use "Scan" and "LED" to select. Press "SET" to save.
    • Repeat the process for the lower alarm limit.
    • After setting both limits, press "SET" twice to return to the measuring function. The settings are automatically saved.
  • Temperature Unit:
    • Press "SET" five times until the "Temperature unit indication" (12) flashes.
    • Use "Scan" (4) and "LED" (5) buttons to select between °C and °F.
    • Press "SET" again to save the desired unit.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of the BP2F.

Battery Change:

  • A battery change is necessary when the "Battery indication" (14) shows an empty battery symbol or when the device fails to switch on. Follow the battery insertion steps outlined above. Remember to dispose of old batteries according to national regulations, as they contain environmentally hazardous materials. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.

Cleaning:

  • Device Housing: Clean the device with a soft, damp, lint-free cloth. Ensure no moisture enters the housing. Avoid using sprays, solvents, alcohol-based cleaning agents, or abrasive cleaners; only clean water should be used to moisten the cloth.
  • Temperature Probe: It is crucial to clean the temperature probe (7) after every measurement. Remove any food residues before folding the probe back into the device.
    • Disinfection: Before using the probe in food, disinfect it with a suitable disinfectant for stainless steel and food to prevent contamination.

Repair:

  • The device should not be modified, nor should any spare parts be installed by the user. For any repairs or device testing, contact the manufacturer directly.

Troubleshooting:

  • Faint or Flickering Display Segments: Check the battery's charging status and ensure it is properly positioned with correct polarity. Change the battery if necessary.
  • Implausible Measured Values: Similar to display issues, check the battery's charging status, position, and polarity.

By following these guidelines, users can ensure the BP2F operates effectively and safely, providing reliable temperature measurements for food.
