Overview

The Fill-Rite TT10A In-line Turbine Meter is a device designed for measuring the flow of various fluids, primarily fuels. It is an in-line turbine meter, meaning it is installed directly within the fluid flow path to provide accurate measurements. The device is suitable for use in hazardous locations, as indicated by its UL, ATEX, and CE certifications, including specific ratings for explosive atmospheres (e.g., II 1G Ex ia IIA T4 Ga, DEMKO 16 ATEX 1787X).

Function Description

The primary function of the TT10A Series Meters is to measure and display the flow of fluids. It can store and display both the current metered amount (batch total) and the cumulative metered amount (totalizer). The meter provides readings in various units, including ounces, pints, quarts, liters, and gallons, which can be selected by the user. It is designed to accurately measure flow rates and is suitable for a range of applications where precise fluid measurement is critical. The meter features advanced electronics that eliminate false counts in high vibration and mobile applications, ensuring accuracy even in challenging environments.

  • Totalizer Range: 0 - 90,000,000 Units.
  • Batch Range: 0.00 - 9999 Units (Blinks when Batch exceeds 9999).
  • Wetted Materials: 304/316 Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Acetal, Gold. These materials ensure compatibility with a wide range of fluids.
  • Power: 2 approved alkaline batteries. Battery replacement is detailed in the manual.
  • Memory: Meter details and calibration are preserved when replacing batteries.
  • Safety: Intrinsically safe electronics for use in hazardous locations.
  • Fluid Viscosity Compatibility: Handles most fuels with viscosities in the range of 0.4 cSt to 79 cSt. For fluids outside this range, calibration may be limited, and the user should consult the technical information section for specific fluid compatibility.
  • Approved Fluids: Gasoline, Diesel, Kerosene, Hexane, Heptane, Mineral Spirits, Non-potable fresh water.

Usage Features

The TT10A meter is designed for user-friendly operation with several key features:

  • Display: The display can be oriented for right-to-left or left-to-right flow, allowing for flexible installation.
  • Operational Buttons: The meter features "TOTAL ON," "RESET," "CAL," and "RATE" buttons for various functions:
    • TOTAL ON: Turns the meter on and displays the total accumulated flow.
    • RESET: Resets the current batch total to zero. This button also navigates between normal operating mode, CAL mode, and FLSH mode.
    • CAL: Allows access to calibration mode, enabling adjustments for different fluid types/viscosities. The TT10 Series Meters provide 20 preset factors for different fluid types/viscosities.
    • RATE: Displays the instantaneous flow rate.
  • Changing Units of Measure: The units of measure can be changed to ounces (OZ), pints (PT), quarts (QT), gallons (GAL), or liters (LITER) without recalibrating the meter. This is done by holding the "CAL" button for three seconds, then using the "RESET" button to cycle through units, and confirming with "CAL."
  • Fluid Calibration: The meter requires calibration for optimal accuracy. Fluid calibration involves using a container of known volume (at least 5 gallons or larger) that is compatible with the fluid being metered. The process involves filling the container and adjusting the calibration factor until the meter accurately reflects the known volume. The meter provides 20 preset calibration factors for different fluid types/viscosities.
  • Flush Mode (FLSH): This mode is useful when flushing the meter for storage or switching between different liquids, ensuring accurate totals.
  • Reset Accumulated Total: The accumulated total can be reset by holding "ON" and "CAL" for three seconds, then "ON" and "RATE" for five seconds.
  • K-Factor Check: This feature allows users to check the internal calibration factor for the meter, displaying the value that corresponds to the selected unit of measure and CAL/Fluid factor.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and accurate operation of the TT10A meter:

  • Battery Replacement: The meter is powered by two AA alkaline batteries. The display will indicate a low battery condition ("BAT" icon). When replacing batteries, it's important to ensure the meter electronics are safe from explosive vapors by moving the meter to a safe area. The memory preserves meter details and calibration during battery replacement.
  • Cleaning: The meter body is made of aluminum alloy and can be cleaned with damp cloth only. Do not immerse the meter in water. For internal cleaning, a mild water-based detergent and damp cloth can be used to clean the display. For the turbine assembly, a compatible fluid can be flushed through to remove residue and sticking.
  • Installation Hints:
    • Excess sealant tape or thread compound upstream of the meter can break free and jam or impair the rotor and cause meter failure. The use of an appropriate amount of thread compound is the preferred method of installation.
    • A compatible sealant tape or thread compound should be applied to all threaded joints.
    • The meter should be installed in the correct direction of flow, indicated by an arrow on the underside of the meter body. Installing it in the wrong direction will significantly impact performance.
    • Do not use a pressure relief valve or check valves without the use of a pressure relief valve, as otherwise the meter may rupture.
    • To avoid buildup of electrostatic discharge, clean with a damp cloth only.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the meter not turning on, flashing decimals, low battery, leaking fluid, incorrect readings, and error codes (Err0, Err1, Err2). Solutions range from replacing batteries, flushing the meter, recalibrating, or checking for damaged electronics. For instance, if the meter won't turn on, possible causes include dead or damaged batteries, with the solution being to replace them. If the meter reading is not correct, it could be due to air in the system, incorrect installation, wrong fluid viscosity, or poor calibration, requiring solutions like ensuring the meter is full of liquid, correcting flow direction, or recalibrating.

The Fill-Rite TT10A In-line Turbine Meter is a robust and versatile device designed for accurate fluid measurement in demanding environments, with features that support ease of use, precise calibration, and straightforward maintenance.
