7.1 Safety precautions
General:
Never carry out maintenance or repair jobs with running excavator engine!
Inspections to the VRG grab with running excavator motor must be carried out
by two qualified persons. The person controlling the excavator should at all
times be able to see the person carrying out the inspections!
No limbs nearby moving parts!
A. Maintenance or repair of the grab shells or swivel head
1. Position the grab VRG with opened shells on a flat surface (see figure 7.1.1); or
position the grab with opened shells on its side on a flat surface (see figure 7.1.2).
Switch off the engine of the excavator!
Note:
The hydraulic system is not entirely pressureless yet. The return line to the tank
still contains a pressure of approx. 5 bar.
2. Stop the excavator and close the ball valves of the oil lines on the boom. In case the
hoses are fitted with quick couplers and there are no ball valves, disconnect the
hoses from the VRG grab at the quick couplers. Attention: discard the oil without
polluting the environment!
