  If the pilot light on your Vermont Castings Gas Heater won't stay lit after following the lighting instructions, it could be due to a defective pilot generator (thermocouple). Ensure the pilot flame properly touches the thermocouple/thermopile. Clean and adjust the pilot for maximum flame impingement on the thermopile and thermocouple. Another cause could be a defective automatic valve. If the millivolt meter reads greater than 10mV when maintaining flow to the pilot, but the pilot still doesn't stay on, the gas valve may need replacement.

  If the spark ignitor on your Vermont Castings Gas Heater won't light, it could be due to a defective or misaligned electrode at the pilot. Try lighting the pilot with a match. If it lights, turn off the pilot and push the red button again. If the pilot still won't light, check the gap at the electrode and pilot; it should be 1/8” to have a strong spark. Another potential cause is a defective ignitor (push button). With the control knob in the pilot position, push the control knob all the way and hold. Check for a spark at the electrode and pilot. If there's no spark to the pilot, and the electrode wire is properly connected, replace the battery in the ignitor module and try again. If the problem persists, replace the ignitor module box.
