Why won't the pilot light stay lit on my Vermont Castings Gas Heater?
- JJessica GarciaAug 12, 2025
If the pilot light on your Vermont Castings Gas Heater won't stay lit after following the lighting instructions, the pilot generator (thermocouple) might be defective. Ensure the pilot flame is correctly impinging on the thermocouple or thermopile. Tighten the thermocouple and clean or adjust the pilot to maximize flame impingement on the thermocouple and thermopile. Another potential cause is a defective automatic valve operator. Turn the valve knob to ‘Pilot’ and maintain flow to the pilot; a millivolt meter should read greater than 10mV. If the reading is okay but the pilot still doesn't stay on, the gas valve may need to be replaced.
