Why won't the pilot light stay lit on my Vermont Castings Radiance RADVTSCCB?

  If the pilot light on your Vermont Castings Gas Heater won't stay lit after following the lighting instructions, the issue might stem from a defective pilot generator (thermocouple) or remote wall switch. Ensure the pilot flame properly touches the thermocouple/thermopile. Try cleaning or adjusting the pilot for the best possible flame impingement on the thermopile and thermocouple. Alternatively, a defective automatic valve could be the problem. With the valve knob in the 'Pilot' position and maintaining flow to the pilot, a millivolt meter should read above 10mV. If the reading is adequate but the pilot still won't stay on, the gas valve may need replacement. Note: An interrupter block (not supplied) is needed for this test.

  If your Vermont Castings Gas Heater's spark ignitor isn't lighting, it could be due to a defective or misaligned electrode at the pilot. Try lighting the pilot with a match. If it lights, turn off the pilot and try the red button again. If it still doesn't light, check the gap at the electrode and pilot; it should be 1/8 inch for a strong spark. Another potential cause is a defective ignitor (push button). With the control knob in the pilot position, push the control knob all the way and hold. Check for a spark at the electrode and pilot. If there's no spark and the electrode wire is properly connected, replace the battery in the ignitor module and try again. If the problem persists, replace the ignitor module box.
