Overview

The A-LIFT Manual Winch Lift Truck is a manually propelled high-lift industrial truck designed for lifting and transporting loads. It is manufactured by Vestil Manufacturing Corp. and is available in several models, including A-LIFT-R, A-LIFT-S, A-LIFT-CB, and their high-profile (HP) and extra-high-profile (EHP) variants.

Function Description:

The primary function of the A-LIFT is to manually lift and lower loads using a winch mechanism and to transport these loads. It features forks (or an optional deck platform) that engage with the load. The lift is designed for operation by a single user from an "Operator's Position" and is maneuvered by grasping the operator handle. The winch handle allows for controlled raising and lowering of the forks. Brakes are included to secure the lifter during loading, unloading, and storage. Some models, like the -CB series, are counterbalanced for enhanced stability.

Important Technical Specifications (by Model):

Model Overall Size (W x D x H) Maximum Rated Load (lb./kg) Net Weight (lb./kg)
A-LIFT-R 24" x 35" x 68" 500 lb. (227kg) 136 lb. (62kg)
A-LIFT-R-HP 24" x 35" x 68" 400 lb. (182kg) 140 lb. (64kg)
A-LIFT-S 29" x 43" x 68" 500 lb. (227kg) 140 lb. (64kg)
A-LIFT-S-HP 29" x 43" x 68" 400 lb. (182kg) 145 lb. (66kg)
A-LIFT-S-EHP 29" x 43" x 79" 350 lb. (159kg) 154 lb. (70kg)
A-LIFT-CB 29" x 47" x 68" 500 lb. (227kg) 396 lb. (180kg)
A-LIFT-CB-HP 29" x 47" x 68" 400 lb. (182kg) 418 lb. (190kg)
A-LIFT-CB-EHP 29" x 47" x 79" 350 lb. (159kg) 449 lb. (204kg)
A-LIFT-DK (Optional Deck) 20½" x 24¼" - 25 lb. (11kg)
A-LIFT-PN (Optional 10" pneumatic rear wheels) - - 20 lb. (9kg)

High-profile (HP) and extra-high-profile (EHP) models feature a telescoping inner mast frame (Item 6), allowing for greater lift heights. Standard models (R, S, CB) use a single cable (Item 5), while EHP units use a different cable (Item 5a).

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The lift trucks are shipped mostly assembled. For A-LIFT-R and A-LIFT-S models, assembly involves connecting support legs, attaching the winch handle, and installing the forks. Counterbalanced (A-LIFT-CB) models require attaching swivel casters to the counterweight base weldment and then securing the weldment to the main assembly, followed by counterweight installation.
  • Fork Installation: Forks can be attached right-side up or upside down, providing flexibility for different load types or lifting requirements. They are secured with fork retaining pins (Item 25).
  • Adjustable Legs (S and CB Models): These models feature adjustable legs (Item 13 for -S models, Item 18 for -CB models) to provide a desired wheelbase. The legs can be slid into different adjustment settings (first or second) after tilting the lifter backward.
  • Maneuvering: The lifter should always be maneuvered from the "Operator's Position" by grasping the operator handle (Item 1) at each end for maximum steering control. Operators should walk behind the lifter, keeping feet clear of the casters.
  • Braking: Brakes (Item 24, optional) or locking casters are used to secure the lifter. For -S models, pressing down on the brake actuator engages the brakes. For -CB models, casters are locked.
  • Load Handling: Loads must be properly centered on the forks or optional deck platform (Item 29) and rest against the back of the forks. The maximum rated load must not be exceeded. Loads should be moved gradually, avoiding sudden starts or stops. The lifter should never be tilted while carrying a load; all four casters must remain in contact with the ground.
  • Optional Deck Platform: The A-LIFT-Deck (Item 29) can be used by attaching it to the carriage, with the forks installed right-side up. It slides onto the lower carriage crossbar and rests on the forks.
  • Transporting the Lifter: For transport, forks and retaining pins should be removed, the carriage fully lowered, and the pivoting carriage latch rotated to secure it.
  • Safety Labeling: The product includes various labels providing critical information such as model name, load capacity, overall height, tip-over hazards, pinch point warnings, and instructions for locking casters/floor locks during loading/unloading. All labels must be readable and undamaged.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspections: The lifter must be inspected before each use and at least every two weeks if used infrequently. Inspections should cover:
    • Cable condition (fraying, damage, diameter decrease).
    • Structural integrity (cracked welds, warping, deformation of mast, forks, carriage).
    • Functioning of the latch mechanism.
    • Unusual noises, binding, or rough movement of the carriage during winch operation.
    • Excessive wear of parts.
    • Noisy or rough operation of casters.
    • Presence of dirt or debris on surfaces.
  • Function Test: Before each use, a function test should be performed:
    • Test the winch by raising and lowering the forks.
    • Test the brakes by engaging them and attempting to push the lift forward.
    • Test the casters by pushing the lifter.
  • Cleaning: Dirt and foreign matter should be removed from the forks and other lifter surfaces.
  • Lubrication: If the carriage does not move smoothly or makes noise, a silicon wax or spray should be applied to the inside of the mast frame.
  • Repairs and Adjustments: Only trained and authorized personnel should perform maintenance. Adjustments (e.g., tightening loose fasteners, removing debris) restore the lifter to normal operating condition. Repairs involve replacing worn parts. The unit should not be returned to service until all necessary repairs and adjustments are complete.
  • Modifications: Unauthorized modifications are strictly prohibited and will void the limited warranty. Any modifications must receive express written approval from Vestil.
  • Storage: The lifter should be stored in a dry location protected from weather.
  • Documentation: A dated record of all repairs, adjustments, and replacements should be maintained.
  • Out of Service Tagging: If the lifter fails inspection or requires maintenance, it should be tagged "Out of Service."

The A-LIFT is designed to be a reliable tool for material handling when used and maintained according to the provided instructions and relevant industry standards (e.g., ITSDF standard B56.10).
