Overview

The provided document is a Use and Maintenance Manual for Vestil LLW, LLPW, ALLW, & ALLPW Light Load Lifters. These devices are manually-propelled high-lift industrial trucks designed for raising and lowering loads.

Function Description

The Vestil Light Load Lifters are designed to facilitate the lifting and lowering of light loads. They are manually operated, primarily using a winch mechanism to control the vertical movement of a deck or platform. The lifters are intended for use in material handling applications where loads need to be raised to a comfortable working height or transported at a low height. The manual emphasizes that these are "manually-propelled high lift industrial trucks" and provides guidance based on the national standard ANSI/ITSDF B56.10-2012.

Usage Features

Raising and Lowering the Deck:

  • The lifter is equipped with a manual winch.
  • To raise the platform, rotate the handle clockwise. The platform rises approximately 1 inch per rotation.
  • To lower the platform, rotate the handle counterclockwise.
  • When the deck is elevated, the handle should be rested on the winch mounting bracket.

Using the Hand Truck:

  • Safety First: Only trained and authorized persons should operate the device. Operators must inspect the lifter and the area of use before each operation.
  • Handling: Grasp the handle with both hands and walk behind the lifter, keeping feet clear of the wheels.
  • Positioning: Move the lifter to a position near the load.
  • Load Placement: Center the load on the deck and secure it (e.g., with ratchet straps) to prevent sliding or rolling. The load should rest against the back of the deck. Improper centering (e.g., in front or to the sides) is explicitly shown as incorrect.
  • Brakes/Floor Lock: If equipped, engage the floor lock or wheel lock to prevent movement.
    • Wheel lock: Press the brake plate down onto the wheel to engage. Lift the release tab to disengage.
    • Floor lock: Press the red handle down to engage. Lift the red handle to a vertical position to disengage. When locked, the rubber boot firmly contacts the ground.
  • Transport: Lower the deck until it is a few inches above the ground before moving the load to the desired location.
  • Unloading: At the destination, lock the casters/brakes, raise the deck to a comfortable height, rest the handle, and remove the load.
  • Storage: Lower the deck completely (a few inches above the legs), engage brakes (if applicable), and store the lifter in a dry, indoor location.

Maintenance Features

Inspections & Maintenance:

  • Regularity: Regular inspections and maintenance are necessary to keep the device in normal condition.
  • Record Keeping: Compare inspection results to the "Record of Satisfactory Condition" (described below) to determine if repairs or replacement parts are needed.
  • Lubrication: Periodically lubricate moving parts.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the product clean and dry.
  • Parts: Only use manufacturer-approved replacement parts.
  • Bi-weekly Inspection (at least):
    • Winch, mounting bracket, cable, and pulley: Cycle the deck, listen for unusual noises/binding, examine the winch spool, inspect the mounting bracket for solid attachment, check the cable for reeving/stretching/thinning, and confirm pulley rotation.
    • Frame (mast, base, deck, and deck rollers): Examine for damaged welds, severe rusting, cracks, bends. Remove rust with steel wool, clean, and apply touch-up paint.
    • Casters and wheels: Check for wobbling, damage, severe wear. Ensure smooth rolling and clean off grit.
    • Hardware: Examine pins, bolts, nuts, and tighten loose fasteners.
    • Floor lock: If equipped, confirm solid contact with the ground and check the rubber pad for wear/damage.
  • Maintenance Program: Implement a program based on ANSI/ITSDF standard B56.10-2006.
    • Tag the lifter "Out of Service" before maintenance.
    • If structural members are deformed, corroded, rusted, or excessively worn, DO NOT use the lifter.
    • If the deck movement is not smooth or noisy, apply silicon wax or spray to the inside of the mast frame.
    • Remove dirt from the cable, pulleys, and other surfaces.
    • Perform necessary adjustments/repairs. DO NOT modify the lifter.
    • Keep a dated record of all repairs/adjustments/replacements.
    • Cycle the platform up and down while listening for unusual noises and watching for binding or rough movement.

Record of Satisfactory Condition:

  • Before initial service, thoroughly photograph the unit from multiple angles, ensuring all operating mechanisms and labels are visible.
  • Document the operation of the winch (effort, sounds), deck movement (smoothness), and brake function (resistance).
  • Collate all photos and writings into a single file with a clear identifier. This record serves as a baseline for future inspections.

Labeling Diagram:

  • The manual provides a diagram of label placement (e.g., Label 287 for capacity, Label 527 for general warnings, Label 208 for pinch points).
  • Users are instructed to photograph all labels upon receipt and replace any damaged, missing, or unreadable labels.

Limited Warranty:

  • Vestil Manufacturing Corporation warrants the product to be free of defects in material and workmanship for a specified warranty period.
  • Warranty covers original dynamic parts (motors, hydraulic pumps, controllers, cylinders) and "wearing parts" (bearings, hoses, wheels, seals, brushes, batteries).
  • Warranty period: 90 days for original dynamic components and wearing parts, starting from the shipping date.
  • Voids warranty: Misuse, negligent assembly/installation/operation/repair, corrosive environments, inadequate maintenance, shipping damage, collisions, unauthorized modifications.
