the following to ensure that
working on electrical components
does not alter the cabinet in such
a way as to affect the level of
protection. This includes damage
to cables, excessive number of
connections, terminals that were
not made to the original
specification, damage to seals,
incorrect connection of cable
glands, etc. Ensure that the
device is securely mounted.
Ensure that seals or sealing
materials are not deteriorated to
such an extent that they can no
longer prevent the penetration of
flammable atmospheres.
Replacement parts must conform
to the manufacturer's
specifications.
NOTE: The use of silicone sealant
may hamper the effectiveness of
some types of leak detection
equipment. Intrinsically safe
components do not have to be
insulated before they are worked
on.
8. Repairs to intrinsically safe
components Do not apply
permanent inductive or load
capacity to the circuit without
ensuring that it does not exceed
the permitted voltage and current
for the equipment used.
Intrinsically safe parts are the only
ones that can be worked on while
under tension in the presence of a
flammable atmosphere. The test
device must have the correct
rating. Only replace parts with
parts specified by the
manufacturer. Other parts can
cause refrigerant leak and ignite
in the atmosphere.
9. Cabling
Check that the cables was not
subject to wear, corrosion,
excessive pressure, vibrations,
sharp edges or other adverse
environmental effects. When
checking, pay attention and
consider the effects of aging or
constant vibrations from sources
such as compressors or fans.
10. Detection of flammable
coolants
Under no circumstances should
potential ignition sources be used
when searching for or detecting
refrigerant leaks. Da not use open
flame, torch or other detector that
uses an open flame.
11. Leak detection methods
For systems that contain
flammable coolants the following
leakage detection methods are
accepted: Electronic leakage
detectors are used to detect
flammable coolants, but the
sensitivity may not be sufficient or
may need to be recalibrated.
(Detection equipment must be
calibrated in a refrigerant-free
area.) Ensure that the detector is
not a potential source of ignition
and suitable for the refrigerant
used. Leakage detection
equipment will be set to a
percentage of the refrigerant's
LFL and calibrated according to
the refrigerant used and the
correct percentage of gas
(maximum 25%) is confirmed.
