Operation
Caution!
All shifting between forward/reverse must be done at engine idle speed. Shifting at higher speeds may
damage the transmission and will also be uncomfortable for those on board. If the boat has two or three
engines, it is important that they are all running during maneuvers astern (rearward movement), other-
wise water might get into the exhaust of the engine which is not running when the backwash catches up
with the boat. Water getting into the engine can cause serious damage.
Checking Instruments
Check instruments regularly. Stop the engine if there is
an abnormal reading or if the engine alarm sounds. The
following normal readings apply:
Oil Pressure
Normal operating oil pressure is approximately 150 -
500 kPa (21-71psi). At engine idle this is normally
lower. Your engine is equipped with a low oil pres-
sure acoustic alarm.
Caution!
If oil pressure is too low: Stop the engine
immediately and investigate. Operating the
engine with oil pressure too low will damage the
engine.
Engine Coolant Temperature
The temperature gauge should read between 70 -
90°C (158 -194°F) normally. Your engine is equipped
with an engine coolant and exhaust temperature
acoustic alarm.
Caution!
If engine coolant or exhaust temperature is too
high: Idle the engine, shift to reverse and then to
forward. Idle the engine for 2 - 3 minutes and
shut off the engine if the temperature does not
decrease. Investigate and correct the malfunc-
tion. Operating an engine with temperatures too
high will damage the engine.
Charge
The operating charge is approximately 14 V. When the
engine is stopped and ignition is on, battery voltage is
approximately 12 V.
