Laying-up & Launching
Before taking the boat out of the water for the winter or for out-of-season storage have an authorized Volvo Penta
workshop inspect the engine and other equipment. Have any necessary repairs or service work carried out so that
your boat is in top condition and ready for the next season.
Inhibition should be carried out to ensure that the engine and transmission are not damaged while they are out of
commission during storage. It is important this is done properly and that nothing is forgotten. We have therefore
provided a checklist covering the most important points. Before carrying out inhibition read the chapter
Maintenance
and Care
carefully. There you will find the instructions on how to carry out the points recommended in the checklist. If
there is any item you are not sure of, please contact your Volvo Penta dealer for more information.
Laying-up
The following procedures may be performed with the
boat IN the water:
Change the engine oil and oil filters.
Replace the fuel filter. If there is a pre-filter replace
that as well.
The following are procedures that are best performed
with the boat OUT of the water:
Any fouling on the hull is easier to remove directly
after hauling the boat before it has had time to dry.
Clean and inhibit the raw water system.
Replacing the impeller from the raw water pump.
Drain any water and contaminants from the fuel
tank. Fill the tank completely with fuel to avoid
condensation in the tank. Add a fuel stabilizer such
as Volvo Penta Marine Fuel Stabilizer part no.
3855832 or equivalent.
Clean and charge the batteries. Keep the batteries
charged while the boat is in storage.
Caution!
A battery in a low charge state is more suscep-
tible to burst from freezing temperatures than a
battery that has a full charge.
Clean the outside of the engine. Do not use a high
pressure spray to clean the engine. Touch up any
damaged areas of paint-work with Volvo Penta
Paint part no. 3810286.
Spray the electrical system components with
moisture repellant spray such as Volvo Penta
Corrosion Shield part no. 362002.
Check all controls cables and treat with rust
inhibitor.
