Maintenance and Care
Fuel Cell
DANGER!
Frequently check the fuel cell for signs of fuel
leakage. Should signs of leakage develop, have
it serviced immediately by your Volvo Penta
dealer.
The fuel cell has two electric fuel pumps, a filter and a
vapor separator/fuel cooler tank. The low pressure fuel
pump (2) draws fuel from the fuel tank through the fuel
filter (1).
The fuel is sent from the low pressure fuel pump to the
vapor separator/fuel cooler tank (3). Here, the fuel is
cooled and the vapors are drawn out of the fuel through
a port (4) to the intake manifold. In the manifold, the
vapors are safely mixed with the incoming air and
burned in the cylinders with the fuel air mixture of the
engine.
The high pressure fuel pump (5) draws fuel from the
vapor separator/fuel cooler tank and sends the fuel to
the injection system. During periods of low fuel demand
such as idle, the fuel recirculates between the injection
system and the vapor separator/fuel cooler tank to help
prevent vapor lock in the fuel system.
Caution!
Do not run the fuel pumps dry. This will damage
the fuel pumps

Fuel Injection
The function of this fuel metering system is to deliver the
correct amount of fuel to the engine under all operating
conditions. Fuel is delivered by electronic fuel injectors
mounted in the throttle body or the intake manifold. The
fuel injectors are controlled by the ECM. It requires no
periodic maintenance or adjustment. If operational
problems occur, see your Volvo Penta dealer.
Flame Arrestor
The flame arrestor should be cleaned annually. Remove
flame arrestor and clean in kerosene or other solvent.
Blow through with compressed air and check for
damage. Reinstall flame arrestor and check that it is
securely mounted.
DANGER!
To avoid the danger of an explosion or fire in the
engine compartment, the engine must always
have an undamaged flame arrestor securely
installed.
