Set crankshaft statically
36 mm socket.
Turn
the crankshaft
so that
the
markforT.D.C.
cylinder 1
aligns with the 20° mark on the timing scale.
Note!
There are two marks on the pulley, 1
=
T.D.C.
cylinder
1
and 2 = T.D.C. cylinder 6.

Set crankshaft at T.D.C. cylinder 1
Insert
a
8 mm drill
(0.315
in) in the blanking plug hole so
that it rests on the crankshaft counterweight.
Press lightly on the drill and turn the crankshaft slowly
in the normal direction of rotation until the drill fits into
the hole in the counterweight.
The engine is now set at exactly T.D.C. for cylinder 1.

Check/adjust timing scale
The zero-mark on the scale must align exactly with the
mark on the pulley.

Install blocking plug
Use a new
seal.
Tightening torque
35-40 Nm (26-30
ft.lbs.
Before proceeding with valve clearance check:
Camshaft setting must be checked. See specifica-
tions on page 8.
