Overview

The Watersnake Advance Brushless Motor (Model SWS 70/36, Code 55267) is a transom-mount electric trolling motor designed for silent and powerful propulsion in various angling conditions. It features a brushless motor, which generally offers higher efficiency, longer lifespan, and quieter operation compared to brushed motors. The motor is engineered with high-quality materials and precision for durability and reliability.

Function Description:

The Watersnake Advance Brushless Motor provides variable forward and reverse speeds, allowing for precise control over boat movement. It is designed to be powered by a 12V deep cycle or 12V LiFePO4 battery. The motor's head unit includes a digital voltage meter to monitor battery status and a USB charging port for devices like phones. A "Sports Mode" button offers temporary high-power boosts, though prolonged use in this mode is not recommended due to increased battery discharge and potential motor damage. The motor is equipped with a weedless propeller, designed to minimize entanglement with aquatic vegetation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Code: 55267
  • Name: Advance SWS 70/36 (White Saltwater)
  • Voltage (V): 12V
  • Max. Thrust (LB): 70lb
  • Shaft Length (IN): 36"
  • Min. / Max. Amp Draw (A): Min. 5A / Max. 50A
  • Max. Prop RPM (No Load): 1300rpm
  • Speeds: Variable Forward & Reverse
  • Propeller: 3 Blade (107mm Pitch)
  • Mounting Bracket: Alloy Transom
  • Required Battery: 12V Deep Cycle or LiFePO4
  • Recommended Battery Size (AH): 100 Amp Hour or Larger (Note: This is a guide; confirm with battery supplier for specific situations.)
  • Battery Cable Gauge: 8AWG
  • Motor Weight: 11.3kg
  • Max Boat Weight (Fully Loaded): 800kg

Usage Features:

  • Extendable Tiller Handle: The tiller handle is telescopic, allowing users to adjust its length for comfortable operation. It rotates clockwise for forward speed and anti-clockwise for reverse.
  • Digital Voltage Meter: Displays the battery voltage being delivered to the motor. For optimal performance, voltage should be between 12V and 14.5V. Readings below 12V for deep-cycle batteries indicate a discharged state, while LiFePO4 batteries maintain a constant voltage until depleted. A warning is issued if voltage exceeds 14.5V, requiring disconnection to prevent damage and warranty voidance.
  • USB Charging Port: Conveniently located on the head unit for charging electronic devices.
  • Multi-Adjustable Depth Collar: Allows for easy adjustment of the motor's depth in the water. The collar is loosened, slid to the desired position, and then re-tightened securely.
  • Quick Tilt Device: A button or lever on the mounting bracket enables quick adjustment of the motor's angle. Holding the motor head or shaft with one hand and depressing the tilt mechanism allows for rotation into deployed or stowed positions.
  • Steering Counter-Force Adjustment: A bolt allows users to fine-tune the steering resistance, ensuring the motor maintains its direction without constant correction.
  • Deployment and Stowing: To deploy, the depth collar is loosened and moved up the shaft, then the quick tilt button is pressed to rotate the motor into position, and the depth is set. For stowing, the process is reversed: the motor is rotated into the stowed position, the depth collar is slid flush with the bracket and tightened, and the battery is disconnected using the Anderson plugs for safe transport.
  • Battery Compatibility: Exclusively designed for 12V deep cycle or 12V LiFePO4 batteries. It is explicitly stated that car/truck/motorcycle type batteries and Ternary Lithium batteries must not be used, as their voltage output can damage the motor and void the warranty. The motor can be powered by a charging battery (e.g., via alternator or solar panels) as long as the input voltage does not exceed 14.5V.
  • Battery Cable Extension: If extending battery cables, users must refer to a provided table to select the correct wire gauge based on motor thrust and cable length to prevent damaging voltage drop. The circuit breaker (if present) must remain on the positive wire.
  • No Circuit Breaker Required: This Advance trolling motor has built-in electronics to protect against excess current, eliminating the need for an external circuit breaker or inline fuse.

Maintenance Features:

  • After Every Use:
    • Disconnect the motor from the battery.
    • Recharge the battery as soon as possible.
    • Do not pressure wash the motor, even after freshwater use.
    • Wipe down the motor with a wet rag, focusing on areas prone to salt, dirt, and weed accumulation (propeller, motor housing, composite shaft, depth collar, mount assembly).
    • Clean these areas with a cloth soaked in warm soapy water and allow to dry.
    • Apply a light coating of a non-staining silicone, petroleum-based, or lanolin spray to protect and lubricate exposed parts, wiping with a soft, dry cloth.
    • Store the motor disconnected from its battery.
    • If stored outdoors, remove the motor and store it securely indoors in a cool, dry place, or protect it with a tarpaulin if permanently mounted.
  • Periodically During the Season:
    • Disconnect the motor from the battery.
    • Inspect battery terminals and cables for signs of corrosion. Remove buildup with a small wire brush and treat with anti-corrosion spray.
    • Apply a silicone, lanolin, or carnauba wax coating to the composite shaft to ensure smooth movement through the mount assembly.
  • End of Season/Long-Term Storage:
    • Disconnect the motor from the battery.
    • Inspect battery terminals and cables for corrosion, remove buildup, and treat with anti-corrosion spray.
    • Remove the motor from the boat and store it in a cool, dry place away from temperature extremes.
  • Propeller Maintenance: Regularly check for and remove any fishing line, weed, or debris around the propeller shaft or propeller. If the propeller is damaged, it may need replacement. Reattach the propeller with blades rotated 180° from their original position if vibration occurs.

Safety Warnings:

  • Always keep fingers and hands away from hinge points and the propeller.
  • Ensure cables from the electric motor to the battery are disconnected before working on the propeller.
  • The motor is not designed to be the sole means of propulsion; users should follow marine safety guidelines.
  • For USA users, a California Proposition 65 warning is included regarding exposure to lead and lead compounds.
