Function Description:

The Weber Griddle 28in LP serves as a versatile outdoor cooking appliance, primarily utilizing liquid propane gas to heat a flat-top griddle surface. Its main function is to provide a consistent and controllable heat source for various cooking methods, including searing, sautéing, frying, and grilling. The griddle is designed for outdoor use only, in well-ventilated areas, and is not intended for installation in or on recreational vehicles or boats. It allows users to cook a wide range of foods, from pancakes and eggs to fajitas and smashed burgers, leveraging its quick heating and heat retention capabilities. The appliance incorporates a snap ignition system for easy lighting of individual burners and a grease management system for efficient collection and disposal of cooking byproducts.

Important Technical Specifications:

    • Includes a collar to protect the tank valve.
    • D.O.T. certification and a testing date within five years of current use.
  • Regulator: Equipped with a pressure regulator with a flow limiting device to control and maintain uniform gas pressure and restrict gas flow in case of a leak. Replacement regulators must be UL-listed Type 1 (CGA 791).
  • Burners: Multiple main burners with individual snap igniters, allowing for independent control and creation of different heat zones.
  • Cooking Surface: Carbon steel griddle, designed for seasoning to create a stick-resistant, protective coating.
  • Clearance to Combustible Materials: Must not be used within 24 inches (61 cm) of combustible materials (top, bottom, back, and sides).

Usage Features:

  • Snap Ignition System: Each control knob features a snap igniter that creates a spark to light individual burners. Users push in and turn the knob to START/HI to ignite.
  • Heat Control: Individual burner control knobs allow for precise temperature adjustments, enabling users to achieve low, medium, or high heat settings for different cooking needs. This also facilitates creating multiple heat zones on the griddle.
  • Side Tables: Integrated side tables provide convenient space for platters, seasonings, and tools, enhancing the user's workspace.

  • Portability: The design includes wheels, suggesting a degree of portability for moving the griddle around an outdoor space.
  • Seasoning Process: The griddle requires an initial seasoning process (at least three times before first use) using neutral cooking oil to build a stick-resistant, protective coating. This involves handwashing, applying oil, heating to smoke point, and cooling.
  • Temperature Guidance: The manual provides clear guidance on appropriate temperature settings (Low, Medium, High) for various food types, such as eggs, vegetables, proteins, and breads.
  • Safety Warnings: Extensive warnings are provided regarding gas leaks, unattended operation, use of flammable materials, grease fires, hot surfaces, and proper handling of the LP tank and hose.

Maintenance Features:

  • Grease Management System: Consists of a slide-out grease tray and a disposable drip pan located under the griddle. This system is designed for easy removal, cleaning, and replacement of the drip pan to prevent grease fires.
  • Meal-to-Meal Maintenance: A recommended routine before each cook includes checking for grease build-up in the drip pan and inspecting the hose for damage.
  • Griddle Cleaning: After each use, the griddle surface should be cleaned with a metal scraper or spatula to remove excess grease and food debris, followed by wiping with paper towels and applying a thin layer of neutral cooking oil. Large amounts of cold water should be avoided during cleaning to prevent warping.
  • Burner Cleaning: The burner ports (small openings along the length of the burners) and spider/insect screens (on the front ends of the burners) should be cleaned regularly using a stainless steel bristle grill brush and a soft bristle brush, respectively, to ensure safe and optimum performance.
  • Grill Frame Cleaning:
    • Stainless Steel Surfaces: Clean with a non-toxic, non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner or polish and a microfiber cloth, cleaning in the direction of the grain. Abrasive pastes should be avoided.
    • Painted, Porcelain-Enameled, and Plastic Components: Clean with warm soapy water, paper towels or cloth, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Rust Prevention: Regular seasoning and applying a thin layer of oil after each cook are recommended to prevent rust. A soft cover (sold separately) can provide additional protection.
  • Annual Leak Check: It is recommended to perform a thorough leak check annually, and each time the LP tank is refilled and reinstalled, at specific connection points.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting section for common issues like burners not igniting, gas flow problems, and erratic flame patterns, offering solutions and guidance on match lighting procedures.
