  First, check the power cord, extension cord, power plug, and the power outlet to ensure they are properly connected and undamaged. If the outlet is functional, but the motor still doesn't start, it may not be providing enough power for the tool. Also, inspect and replace the carbon brushes if they are worn.

  Your Wen sander might be overheating because you are forcing the tool to work too fast; allow it to work at its own pace. Another potential cause is using an extension cord that is too long or too thin. Also, make sure that you remove dust from the motor housing vents.
