Overview

The WF-8900-REP Series Converter Replacement Kit is designed for easy upgrade of existing RV power centers, transforming old single-stage chargers into high-performance three-stage charging powerhouses. This kit includes a metal mounting frame with a preinstalled WF-9800 Series deck mount converter/charger, a nine-circuit fuse panel with two preinstalled reverse polarity fuses, and all necessary mounting fasteners.

Function Description:

The core function of the WF-8900-REP kit is to provide a reliable and efficient DC power source for recreational vehicles (RVs) while simultaneously charging the 12-volt house battery. It converts AC shore power (105-130VAC, 60Hz) into stable DC power for the RV's 12-volt components such as lights, radios, and refrigerators. A key feature is its three-stage smart charging capability, which continuously monitors battery voltage and regulates the charge amount through Absorption, Bulk, and Float modes, thereby extending battery life.

Important Technical Specifications:

The WF-8900-REP Series offers different models with varying power outputs:

  • WF-9835:
    • Max Input Current @105VAC: 7A
    • Max Power: 600 watts

  • Agency Listings: UL458 certified; FCC Class B compliant

Dimensions:

  • WF-9835: 4 5/8"W x 4"H x 7 1/2"D (117.5 mm W x 101.6 mm H x 190.5 mm D)
  • WF-9845/WF-9855: 4 3/4"W x 4"H x 8 3/4"D (120.7 mm W x 101.6 mm H x 222.3 mm D)

Weight:

  • WF-9835: 4 lbs. / 1.8 kg
  • WF-9845: 5.25 lbs. / 2.4 kg
  • WF-9855: 5.5 lbs. / 2.5 kg

Usage Features:

  • Quiet Operation: Designed to minimize noise during operation.
  • Filtered Power: Provides clean and stable DC power, crucial for sensitive RV electronics.
  • Three-Stage Smart Charging:
    • Absorption Mode (13.6 VDC): The default, normal operating mode, providing ample DC output power for typical RV loads and efficient battery charging when the battery is not deeply discharged.
    • Bulk Mode (14.4 VDC): Activated when the microprocessor detects a significantly discharged battery. This increased voltage charges the battery faster while still powering DC appliances. It drops out when the total amperage draw reaches a preset point or after a maximum of four hours.
    • Float Mode (13.2 VDC): Provides a trickle charge to the battery if no significant current draw variations are observed for approximately 44 continuous hours. This lower voltage maintains the battery charge and helps preserve battery life during storage.
  • Automatic Cooling Fan: The fan speed is load-controlled, increasing as the total load increases and decreasing as it decreases. This provides better component cooling and prevents premature component failure.
  • FCC Class B Approval: Ensures the device complies with regulations regarding radio frequency interference.

Maintenance Features:

  • Reverse Battery Protection: Two reverse polarity fuses are installed to protect the converter circuitry from permanent damage if the RV battery is accidentally connected backwards. These fuses are the main connection between the converter-charger and the DC fuse board.
  • Overload Protection: Features current-limiting and shut-down capabilities with auto-recovery upon return to normal load conditions.
  • Short-Circuit Protection: The converter will shut down its voltage output to zero volts in the event of a short circuit and auto-recover once the condition is removed.
  • Over-Temperature Protection: The unit will shut down if its internal temperature exceeds a critical point to prevent damage to sensitive components and will restart once the temperature drops.
  • DC Fuses (12 Volts): The WF-9800 Series Converter-Charger has receptacles for reverse battery protection fuses (ATC or ATO automotive type fuses). These fuses should be replaced with the same type and amperage rating as installed. Specific fuse ratings are 40A for WF-9835, 30A (x2) for WF-9845, and 35A (x2) for WF-9855.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a detailed flow chart for diagnosing issues such as no DC output from the converter, including checks for AC power source, reverse polarity fuses, wiring connections, and converter functionality.
  • Warranty: WFCO offers a Two Year Limited Product Warranty to the original owner, covering defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for Recreational Vehicle applications within the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Provinces of Canada. The warranty is limited to repair or replacement of defective parts or assemblies at WFCO's discretion. Exclusions apply to products repaired by unauthorized persons, damaged by misuse or faulty installation, those with defaced serial numbers, or those sold through unauthorized internet sources.
