The WF-8900-AD-REP Series Converter Replacement Kit is designed to upgrade existing power centers in recreational vehicles (RVs) by replacing the lower section of certain power center brands with a high-performance three-stage charging powerhouse. This kit facilitates an easy upgrade from older single-stage chargers.
Function Description:
The WF-8900-AD-REP Kit provides all of WFCO's performance standards, including quiet operation, filtered power, overload protection, short circuit protection, and FCC Class B approval. It features an exclusive "Auto-detect" feature for battery charging, which evaluates the battery's charging cycle, determines the battery type (Lead Acid, AGM, or Lithium), and then selects the appropriate charging program (profile) for optimal performance and maintenance.
For standard Lead Acid and AGM batteries, the converter uses a Three-Stage Smart Charging system, which continuously measures battery voltage and regulates charge using Absorption, Bulk, and Float modes.
- Absorption Mode (13.6 VDC): This is the default and normal operation mode. When connected to a battery, power is available for charging whenever the converter output exceeds the battery's voltage level. If the battery is at or near fully charged, current draw is minimal; if discharged, it can be high. This mode can charge a completely discharged battery (11.9 VDC) to 12.7 VDC in under three hours with a 20 Amp lighting load. Increased DC loads will lengthen charging time. The converter will enter Bulk Mode if the output reaches a preset level due to increased DC load.
- Bulk Mode (14.4 VDC): Designed to quickly charge significantly discharged batteries. The microprocessor monitors DC line voltage and boosts converter voltage to 14.4 VDC when a preset voltage level is detected, accelerating battery charging while powering DC appliances. The 14.4 VDC output may not be observable if DC loads are high; reducing loads will allow the voltage to climb. The converter exits Bulk Mode when the total amperage draw reaches a preset point, indicating the battery is charged, or after a maximum of four hours.
- Float Mode (13.2 VDC): This is a trickle charge mode. If no significant current draw variations are observed for approximately 44 continuous hours, the converter output drops from 13.6 VDC to 13.2 VDC. This maintains battery charge when the RV is not in use, preserving battery life. Any change in DC current will cause the converter to exit Float Mode and return to Absorption Mode.
For Lithium batteries, the WFCO Two-Stage Smart Charging system is used, operating in Bulk and Absorption modes.
- Lithium Bulk Mode (14.6 VDC): Designed to quickly restore energy to the battery and balance lithium cells. Output voltage is boosted to 14.6 VDC, allowing maximum current flow. This stage can last from 1 to 4 hours, with a minimum of 1 hour for cell balancing and a maximum of 4 hours for empty batteries. Cycling power will reset timers if longer charging is needed. The converter exits bulk mode when DC system voltage climbs, current decreases, and total amperage draw reaches a preset point within the timer.
- Lithium Absorption Mode (13.6 VDC): This is the default or normal operating mode, providing a safe operating voltage for all loads in the RV. The output voltage is reduced from bulk mode to 13.6 VDC and maintained until power is cycled to the converter. This mode has no timer and provides a voltage historically acceptable for RV loads, avoiding undue stress on lights and appliances.

DC Fuses (12 Volts):
The DC fuse receptacle on the rear panel accommodates one or two Reverse Battery Protection fuses. These should be ATC or ATO automotive type fuses (e.g., Littelfuse type 257 or Bussmann type ATC).

- Overall Height: 7-1/4"
- Side Panel Height: 5-5/8"

- Mounting Holes: 3/16" x 9/16"
- Fuse Board Dimensions: 12-1/8" (width) x 7-5/8" (height)
Usage Features:
- Easy Upgrade: Designed for easy removal of the lower section of certain power center brands and sliding in the WF-8900-AD-REP unit.
- Comprehensive Kit: Includes a metal mounting frame with preinstalled WF-9800-AD Series deck mount converter/charger, a nine-circuit fuse panel with two preinstalled reverse polarity fuses, and all required mounting fasteners.
- Reverse Battery Hookup Protection: Two reverse polarity fuses protect the converter circuitry from damage if the battery is connected backward. These fuses are the main connection between the converter-charger and the DC fuse board. The converter can operate without a battery installed.
- Automatic Cooling Fan: The fan speed is controlled incrementally by the current drawn from the converter, increasing with load and decreasing as load decreases. This load-controlled fan provides better component cooling and prevents temperature spikes.
- Over-Temperature Protection: The converter will shut down if its internal temperature exceeds a critical point to protect sensitive components. It restarts once the temperature drops.
- Electronic Current Limiting: If the output current exceeds the maximum rating, the output current remains constant, but the output voltage drops. The unit recovers once loads are reduced.
- Short-Circuit Protection: In case of a short circuit in the RV, the converter drops the voltage output to zero volts. It resumes normal operation if the short-circuit condition is removed and no other faults are detected.
- AC Reverse Polarity (Audible Alarm): Equipped with an alarm that sounds if the incoming AC neutral and lead wires are connected backward at the power center, continuing until corrected.
Maintenance Features:
- Troubleshooting Guide: Provides instructions for checking converter output voltage, reverse battery hookup (reverse polarity fuses), and general troubleshooting steps for DC output issues.
- Fuse Replacement: Faulty DC fuses and AC breakers should be replaced with ones of the same type and ratings as installed. Reverse polarity fuses must be replaced with the same type and amperage rating.
- Professional Installation Recommended: Installation and servicing should be performed by a certified or licensed electrician familiar with applicable safety codes and installation requirements.
- Battery Check: If the RV is in storage for 30 days or more, check the battery and its fluid levels.
- Risk of Electrical Shock: Disconnect or isolate all power supplies before making electrical connections. Contact with hazardous voltage components can cause severe injury or death.
- Wiring Conformity: All wiring must conform to local, national, and regional regulations. Use only copper conductors and do not exceed electrical ratings to prevent equipment failure or electrical shock.
- Spark Hazard: The unit employs components that can produce arcs or sparks. Do not install in compartments containing batteries or flammable materials (LP gas). The product is NOT ignition protected.
- Do Not Obstruct Ventilation: Do not cover or obstruct enclosure ventilation openings. Do not mount the unit in a zero-clearance compartment to prevent overheating.
- Battery System: Use the converter only on appropriate battery systems. Consult battery manufacturer's recommendations for additional safety information.
