Overview

This document provides a comprehensive guide for operating and maintaining a Whirlpool dishwasher, model ADG 9999, with a loading capacity of 13 place settings. It covers functions, technical specifications, usage features, and maintenance procedures, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of the appliance.

Function Description

The dishwasher offers a range of programmes tailored for different levels of soiling and types of crockery. Key programmes include:

  • AquaSteam 6 (40-70°C): Designed for normally or heavily soiled crockery, this programme utilizes steam action, eliminating the need for soaking or hand pretreatment. It also ensures hygiene through high-temperature steam.
  • Pre-Wash (Cold): A short programme for crockery to be washed later, preventing food residues from drying on.
  • Glasses (40°C): Ideal for lightly soiled items like glasses and cups.
  • Quickwash (45°C): For lightly soiled crockery with no dried-on food. Note that tablets are not recommended for this programme.
  • Eco (50°C): An energy-saving programme for normally soiled crockery. This is the reference programme for the energy label in compliance with EN 50242 regulations.
  • Antibacterial (Multizone, Power Clean): For normally or heavily soiled crockery, this programme includes an additional antibacterial wash. Programme interruption can compromise germ elimination.
  • Overnight (55°C): A gentle and quiet programme for normally soiled crockery, thanks to lower spray pressure (39dbA).

The appliance features several options to enhance washing performance and convenience:

  • Salt Indicator: Lights up when the salt reservoir needs refilling, crucial for water softening.
  • Rinse Aid Indicator: Lights up when the rinse aid dispenser needs refilling, ensuring streak-free drying.
  • Set the Detergent: Allows selection of detergent type (powder, gel, or tablet) to optimize washing.
  • Half Load/Multizone: Enables washing in specific zones (both racks, upper rack only, or lower rack only), saving water and energy for smaller loads.
  • Power Clean: Activates additional power jets in the lower rack for intensive washing of pots and casseroles.
  • Delayed Start: Allows delaying the programme start from 1 to 24 hours, offering flexibility.

Usage Features

Setting Water Hardness:

This is a crucial step for optimal cleaning results and should be done before the first wash or if water hardness changes.

  1. Switch on the appliance.
  2. Select programme "P2".
  3. Press the START button for at least 5 seconds until the START indicator lamp flashes.
  4. The current water hardness setting is displayed.
  5. Repeatedly press the START button to cycle through settings 1 to 7.
  6. Switch off the appliance to memorize the new setting. The factory setting is "4" for medium hard water. It's important to add salt even when using tablets that include salt, as they may not be effective enough for hard water.

Filling Salt Reservoir:

The salt reservoir should be filled with water before the first wash, then with dishwasher salt (min. 1.5 kg, max. 2 kg). The visual indicator or salt indicator lamp will signal when refilling is needed.

Adding Rinse Aid:

Open cover B and add rinse aid up to the max. line (~150 ml). The dosage regulator (factory setting 4) can be adjusted (1-6) to prevent streaks or improve drying. The rinse aid indicator lamp signals when refilling is needed. Only use rinse aids recommended for domestic dishwashers.

Adding Detergent:

Fill the detergent dispenser (cover A) with tablet, gel, or powder detergent before each wash programme. For 2-in-1 tablets, adding salt is still mandatory.

Loading Racks:

  • Cutlery Rack: Can be placed in position 1 or 2. It can be removed to accommodate stem glasses in the upper rack or bulky items in the lower rack.
  • Upper Rack: Features an adjustable glass holder. Its height can be adjusted by grasping the two lateral handles (C) and lifting/lowering to create more space in either rack.
  • Lower Rack: Includes vertical plate holders (E) that can be folded down for pots, and a cutlery basket (F) which can be placed in the lower rack, especially when using the "Half load/Multizone" option.
  • Power Clean Area (G): For intensive washing of pots and casseroles, adjust the rear plate holders and load items inclined towards the power water jets.

Switching On and Programme Selection:

  1. Close the dishwasher door and open the water tap.
  2. Press the "P" button repeatedly to select the desired programme.
  3. Press the START button to begin the programme.

Programme Interruption and Change:

  • To interrupt, press RESET. The programme can be resumed by closing the door.
  • To change a programme, press RESET, close the door (water drains for up to 60 seconds), open the door, select a new programme, and press START.

Switching Off:

Press the OFF button once the START indicator lamp has switched off. Unload the appliance starting from the lower rack to prevent water drips.

Maintenance Features

Filters (9):

Check and clean regularly. Unscrew the filter cylinder, remove it and the fine sieve, then rinse under running water. Insert and screw back tightly, aligning the mark.

Spray Arms (10):

Remove blockages/deposits. Unscrew and remove both upper and lower spray arms. Clean spray nozzles under running water (use toothpicks if necessary). Insert and screw back tightly.

Troubleshooting ("What to do if..."):

The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues, including:

  • Appliance not starting (check fuse, door closure, delayed start).
  • "F1" (water supply temperature below 3°C).
  • "F4" (dirty filters, kinked drain hose, closed syphon connection, closed water tap).
  • "F6" (kinked water inlet hose, clogged inlet filters).
  • "F7" (low water pressure).
  • "F8" (dirty/clogged filters, too little water, incorrectly fitted drain hose).
  • Crockery not clean (incorrect loading, insufficient/old detergent, low temperature, frequent Eco 50°C use, clogged spray arms).
  • Salt indicator lit (soft water tablets, hard water, open cap).
  • Regeneration salt residue (hard water, open cap).
  • Crockery not dry (insufficient rinse aid, plastic items, dishes left too long).
  • Discoloured plastic parts (tomato/carrot juice, use powder detergent).
  • Opaque glasses (unsuitable dishes/programmes).
  • Removable deposits on glasses (incorrect programmes).
  • Glasses not sparkling (unsuitable glasses).
  • Permanent deposits (rainbow effect, unknown).
  • Tea cups darken (unknown, pre-wash needed).
  • Rust marks (salty/acidic food, pre-wash needed).
  • Other marks (rinse aid dosage too low).
  • Streaks (rinse aid dosage too high).
  • Suds (unsuitable detergent/rinse aid dosage).

Resetting Fault Messages:

Press the START button for approx. 2 seconds or the RESET button until the indicator lamp switches off. Close the door, allow water to drain (up to 60 seconds), then the appliance is ready to restart.
