aidThehearingaidevaluationwillenabletheaudiologistordis-
pensertoselectandfitahearingaidtoyourindividualneeds
Ifyouhavereservationsaboutyourabilitytoadapttoamplifica-
tionyoushouldinquireabouttheavailabilityofatrial-rentalor
purchase-optionprogramManyhearingaiddispensersnowoffer
programsthatpermityou towearahearing aid foraperiod of
timeforanominalfeeafterwhichyoumaydecideifyouwantto
purchasethehearingaid
Federallawrestrictsthesaleofhearingaidstothoseindividuals
whohaveobtainedamedicalevaluationfromalicensedphysician
Federallawpermitsafullyinformedadulttosignawaiverstate-
mentdecliningthemedicalevaluationforreligiousorpersonalbe-
liefsthatprecludeconsultationwithaphysicianTheexerciseof
such a waiver is not in your best health interest and its use is
stronglydiscouraged

Inadditiontoseeingaphysicianforamedicalevaluationachild
withahearinglossshouldbedirectedtoanaudiologistforevalu-
ationandrehabilitationsincehearinglossmaycauseproblemsin
languagedevelopmentandtheeducationalandsocialgrowthofa
childAnaudiologistisqualifiedbytrainingandexperiencetoas-
sistintheevaluationandrehabilitationofachildwithahearing
loss
