Do you have a question about the Wood-mizer Laser Sight and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This manual describes the Laser Sight, an accessory for LT40 and LT70 Sawmills, designed to assist operators in making precise cuts. The primary function of the Laser Sight is to project a visible laser line onto the material being cut, providing a visual guide for the blade's path. This feature is particularly beneficial for indoor cutting applications where the laser beam is clearly visible.

Safety Information:

The manual emphasizes safety as the paramount concern, using various signal words to highlight potential hazards. The symbol with an exclamation mark within a triangle indicates instructions concerning personal safety.

  • DANGER! signifies an imminently hazardous situation that will result in death or serious injury if not avoided. For the Laser Sight, this specifically warns of visible and/or invisible laser radiation and advises avoiding eye or skin exposure to direct or scattered radiation.
  • WARNING! suggests a potentially hazardous situation that could result in death or serious injury if not avoided.
  • CAUTION! refers to potentially hazardous situations that may result in minor or moderate injury to persons or equipment if not avoided. Specific cautions for the Laser Sight include:
    • Avoiding direct or reflected eye exposure to the switched-on laser optics due to the danger of permanent eye damage.
    • Never observing the laser beam through an optical system (e.g., binoculars) as it is very dangerous and inadmissible.
    • Securing the working place against the entry of unauthorized persons.

Operators are instructed to read and understand all safety information and instructions before operating, setting up, or maintaining the machine.

Laser Alignment - LT40 Sawmills:

Accurate alignment is crucial for the laser sight to function effectively.

  1. Sawmill Setup:

    • Stationary sawmills should be set up on firm, level ground.
    • Shim the feet to ensure the sawmill's weight is evenly supported.
  2. Sawmill Alignment:

    • Ensure the sawmill itself is properly aligned (refer to the Alignment Section of your Sawmill Operator's Manual).
  3. Load Cant:

    • Load a cant (log section) onto the bed of the sawmill.
  4. Test Cut:

    • Make a cut.
    • Without raising the carriage head, return it to the front of the sawmill so that the blade remains level with the top of the cant and the carriage head is 1' behind the front of the cant.
  5. Laser Alignment:

    • When properly aligned, approximately 10" of the laser beam should show across the front of the cant.
    • Vertical Adjustment (Figure 5-1):
      • Loosen the assembly mounting fasteners.
      • Move the entire laser assembly up or down as needed.
      • Retighten the fasteners to secure the assembly.
      • For fine-tuning, the laser diode mounting bracket can be moved up or down. Retighten the diode mounting screws after adjustment.
    • Addressing Low Beam (Figure 5-2): If the laser beam is too low, it will show against the side of the cant.
    • Addressing High Beam (Figure 5-2): If the laser beam is too high, extend the edge of the cant upward by folding pieces of paper in half and positioning them so the folds align with the outside edge of the cant. Use a thumbtack to secure the bottom half of the papers to the cant.
    • Horizontal Adjustment (Figure 5-3):
      • Loosen the laser pivot screws.
      • Pivot the laser diode side to side, or up and down, as necessary.
      • Retighten the pivot screws to secure the diode in place.

Laser Alignment - LT70 Sawmills:

The alignment process for LT70 Sawmills is identical to LT40 Sawmills, with the same steps for sawmill setup, alignment, loading a cant, making a test cut, and adjusting the laser vertically and horizontally. Figure 5-1 for LT70 shows the mounting bolts, and Figures 5-2 and 5-3 are generic diagrams for beam adjustment and pivot screw adjustment, respectively.
