What to do if Woodward Control Systems prime mover will not accept full load?
    • J
      John PayneAug 26, 2025
If the prime mover won't accept a full load, consider the following: * **Prime Mover Condition:** If droop occurs only near the full-load point, the prime mover might not be producing the required power or is being overloaded. This is indicated if the fuel control is at its maximum position. * **ProAct Control Settings:** Check the Max Fuel Limit setting and increase it if necessary. Review the Torque Limiter settings and increase them if needed. Verify the droop setting, setting it to 0 if required. Inspect the Aux Input terminals to ensure the auxiliaries are within range, with a maximum voltage of 2.5 Vdc. Also, check the linkage from the actuator to the fuel rack.

What to do if Woodward Control Systems prime mover won't start?
    • C
      Clayton BoydNov 2, 2025
If the prime mover won't start and the actuator isn't moving to the start fuel position, here's what you can check: 1. **Supply Voltage:** Verify the supply voltage from terminals 24 (+) to 25 (–). If the polarity is reversed, correct it. 2. **Actuator Response:** If there's voltage at control terminals 1 (+) and 2 (–) but the actuator remains still, inspect the wiring to the actuator for any breaks or shorts. Also, check the actuator and feedback polarity. Ensure the actuator and its linkage are properly installed and functioning, paying attention to rotation direction, linkage issues, worn parts, or incorrect adjustments. 3. **Start Fuel Limit:** Increase the start fuel limit until the prime mover starts. 4. **Run/Stop Contact:** Check terminal 23. The Run/Stop contact must be close...

Why does my Woodward ProAct I prime mover overspeed only on starts?
    • Z
      zowensNov 9, 2025
If your prime mover is overspeeding only during starts, consider these potential causes: * **Control Adjustment:** The control might be set for sluggish operation, leading to overspeed on startup. Adjust the GAIN slowly for the fastest stable response. Ensure the Stability setting isn't too low; increase it if needed. The Start Fuel Limit or Start Ramp might be set too high, or the start speed could be too low. Also, verify that the correct set of dynamics has been selected. * **Linkage/Coupling:** For diesel setups, ensure the fuel rack isn't binding and the linkage is correctly adjusted. Verify the fuel rack is responding quickly to the actuator. In carburetor setups, check for any binding in the butterfly valve. Inspect the linkage or coupling adjustment. * **ProAct control:** If...

How to stabilize Woodward ProAct I prime mover at rated no-load speed?
    • D
      Dawn DavisNov 17, 2025
To stabilize a prime mover at its rated no-load speed, consider the following: * **ProAct Control Adjustments:** Adjust GAIN, Stability, and ACTUATOR COMPENSATION within Menu 1 or 2. Also, check the Gain Breakpoint for lower speeds. * **External Wiring:** Ensure that necessary external wires are properly shielded to minimize noise and interference. Verify a common ground connection between the switchgear frame, governor chassis, and prime mover. Temporarily remove the battery-charger cables from the control battery system to see if it improves operation. If so, replace the wires one at a time to identify the source of the issue. Shield or reroute external wiring away from high-current lines or components. If the problem persists, remove the control from the switchgear and temporarily ...
