Overview

This document describes the Xerox Phaser 7300 Color Printer, a device designed for high-quality color printing. It emphasizes the importance of using appropriate paper types and media to ensure optimal print quality and prevent damage to the printer. The manual provides detailed guidance on accessing and printing various informational pages stored within the printer, as well as tips for handling different media types.

Function Description

The Xerox Phaser 7300 Color Printer is a color laser printer capable of producing a wide range of printed materials, from standard documents to specialized media like transparencies, card stock, envelopes, labels, business cards, greeting cards, and CD/DVD labels/inserts. The printer stores a significant amount of information as "printable pages," which serve as internal documentation and guides for users. These pages include information on supported papers, paper tips, and a menu map, all designed to help users effectively operate and maintain the device. The printer's front panel allows users to navigate through these internal pages and print them as needed.

Usage Features

The printer offers several features to enhance usability and ensure quality output:

  • Media Versatility: The Phaser 7300 supports a broad spectrum of media types and sizes, including various weights of plain paper, transparencies, thin and thick card stock, different envelope sizes, labels, letterhead, glossy coated paper, business cards, greeting cards, and CD/DVD labels/inserts. This versatility makes it suitable for diverse printing needs, from office documents to marketing materials and personalized items.
  • Tray Management: The printer utilizes a Multi-Purpose Tray (MPT) and other trays, each designed to handle specific paper types and sizes. The manual provides detailed tables indicating which media types are compatible with which trays and in which sizes, helping users select the correct tray for their printing tasks.
  • Front Panel Access: Users can access and print internal informational pages directly from the printer's front panel. This includes navigating to the "Printable Pages Menu" using arrow keys and the "OK" button to select specific pages like "Paper Tips" or the "Menu Map." This feature allows for quick on-demand access to essential operational guidance without needing an external computer.
  • Custom Mode for Envelopes: The printer supports printing on custom-sized envelopes, offering flexibility for non-standard mailing requirements.
  • Xerox Branded Media Recommendation: For optimal results and to prevent damage, the manual strongly recommends using Xerox Phaser branded media, which is specifically designed and tested for compatibility with the Phaser 7300. This ensures the best print quality and helps maintain the printer's longevity.
  • Color Bar Format: All internal printable pages feature color bars at the top and bottom, indicating a consistent format for these informational documents. This visual cue helps users identify internal documentation.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides several tips and warnings related to media handling and general maintenance to ensure the printer's smooth operation and prevent issues:

  • Preventing Jams: To mitigate excessive paper jams, users are advised to flip and fan the paper in the tray or install fresh paper from an unopened ream. This helps separate sheets and prevents multiple pages from feeding at once.
  • Transparency Handling: Transparencies should be fanned prior to loading to prevent them from sticking together, which can cause misfeeds or jams. The manual specifically warns against using non-Phaser 35-Series Transparency Film, as other types may damage the printer's fuser.
  • Envelope Usage: Only paper envelopes should be used, and envelopes with windows or metal clasps must be avoided. These elements can cause damage to the printer's internal mechanisms.
  • Label Handling: Label media should be fanned prior to loading to prevent sticking. A critical warning states that labels should not be printed on once a label has been removed from the sheet, as this can lead to adhesive residue inside the printer, causing damage.
  • Glossy Paper Caution: Users are warned against using glossy ink-jet paper or non-laser glossy paper, as these types can cause damage to the printer's fuser due to their different coating compositions.
  • Business Card Media Caution: Similar to labels, business card media should not be printed on once cards have been removed from the sheet, likely to prevent damage from incomplete sheets or adhesive.
  • Label Stock Caution: The manual explicitly states not to print on label stock once labels have been removed, reinforcing the importance of using complete sheets to prevent internal damage.
  • Unsupported Media Warning: A general caution highlights that damage caused by using unsupported media is not covered by the printer's warranty, underscoring the importance of adhering to the recommended media types.
  • Supply Information: The manual directs users to the Xerox website for information on ordering supplies, facilitating easy access to compatible consumables.
