Overview

The XPOWER Air Scrubber is a highly innovative and unique device designed to purify air by removing airborne particles and contaminants from the surrounding environment. It utilizes an advanced multi-stage filtration system to ensure the delivery of the purest air possible. The device is effective in capturing a wide range of airborne particles, including hair, skin flakes, visible dust, mold spores, pollen, pet dander, and various miscellaneous debris. This comprehensive filtration system is crucial for containing ground-water contaminants that can lead to environmental and human toxicity, as well as preventing the migration of organisms from one location to another.

The air scrubber is designed for ease of use and comes ready-to-operate upon arrival. Before plugging it into a power source, it is recommended to inspect the unit for any shipping damage. Once inspected, the device should be placed upright on a stable, flat, and dry surface. It offers flexibility in placement, as it can be used in two different angle positions: vertical and horizontal. The desired speed of operation can be selected using a control knob, ensuring the unit operates normally according to the user's needs.

A key feature of the XPOWER Air Scrubber is its advanced filtration technology. The X-3400A model incorporates a 3-stage filter system, while the X-3500 and X-3700 models feature a more comprehensive 4-stage filter system. These systems include a washable outer round nylon mesh, an inner nylon mesh, a pleated media filter, a HEPA filter, and activated carbon filters. The HEPA filter is particularly effective, capturing 99.9% of smaller particles down to 0.3 microns, which is vital for maintaining superior air quality and protecting against health risks associated with indoor air pollution.

The device is designed for efficiency, boasting low amp usage while delivering high airflow capacity, ranging from 550 to 700 CFM. For convenience, it includes an easy cord wrap design. A "Filter Change Light" illuminates when the accumulated debris in the filters reaches a saturation point, indicating that the filters need to be changed to maintain optimal performance. The air scrubber is also built for practicality, featuring a stackable, compact, and lightweight design, making it easy to store and transport.

The X-3400A model offers an additional feature: GFCI daisy chain capability. This allows up to three X-3400A units to be connected and run on a single power circuit, thanks to its low 2.8 amp draw and a 12-amp on-board circuit breaker. If the auxiliary outlet overloads, the circuit breaker will trip. In such an event, users should unplug the units and press the "Circuit Breaker Reset" button before plugging them back into the power source and turning on the switch. The durable and rugged ABS housing ensures the longevity of the device, backed by a 1-year limited warranty.

Maintenance of the XPOWER Air Scrubber is straightforward and crucial for its optimal performance and longevity. To keep the housing clean, a damp cloth should be used to wipe its surface; water should never be used directly on the air scrubber for cleaning. When not in use, the unit should be unplugged and stored in a dry indoor place, out of reach of children. It is imperative to always disconnect the air scrubber from its power source before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or servicing tasks to prevent electric shock and injury.

Filter maintenance and replacement are particularly important. The XPOWER Air Scrubbers offer different filter configurations to suit various air filtration requirements. To prevent cross-contamination between jobs, limit liability, and optimize performance, a basic maintenance routine should be performed after every use. This routine includes decontaminating the entire unit, both inside and out, and replacing the entire filter system (both pre-filters and primary) before using the unit for a new job.

Filters should be changed when they become loaded with particles, as this reduces airflow and increases pressure drop, potentially leading to a loss of filtration efficiency. The on-board pressure sensors automatically alert the user via the "Filter Change Light" when filters need attention.

The nylon mesh filters (NFR12 & NFS16) are washable and serve to protect the inner filters from larger particles, thereby extending the life of the primary HEPA filters. Before cleaning these mesh filters, the air scrubber must be turned off. Debris should be removed, the filter rinsed with water, and then laid flat on a clean, dry surface to dry completely before re-installation. The NFR12 fits the X-3500 model only, while the NFS16 fits all XPOWER Air Scrubbers.

The pleated media filter (PF16) can be cleaned with a dry cloth or a portable vacuum cleaner. Gentle pressure should be applied to avoid breaking the filter, and water should never be used for cleaning the PF16. If the filter is heavily loaded with particles, replacement is advised.

HEPA filters (HEPA35 & HEPA50) are high-efficiency particulate air filters that capture tiny contaminants. To maximize their life, pre-filters should be changed regularly. Like other filters, HEPA filters should only be removed when the air scrubber is turned off. Water should not be used to clean HEPA filters; instead, a vacuum or clean cloth should be used, and the filter laid flat on a clean, dry surface to dry. When re-installing, the side with the gasket must face the motor housing to prevent air leakage. HEPA35 fits X-3500, while HEPA50 fits X-3400A and X-3700.

Activated carbon filters (CF35) remove contaminants and impurities through chemical absorption, targeting volatile organic compounds like smoke, food odors, paint fumes, and sewer odors. These filters can be reused through a process called 'regeneration,' which involves heating the spent carbon to remove adsorbed substances. Water should not be used to clean CF35 filters; instead, a vacuum or clean cloth is recommended. For best results, placing the CF35 under the sun for a couple of hours can aid in regeneration. Replacement is necessary when a decline in effectiveness is noted. The CF35 fits the X-3500 and X-3700 models and is placed inside the housing in front of the HEPA filter.

When removing or replacing filters, especially when dealing with hazardous particles, operators should wear appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE), including a NIOSH-approved respirator. For mold remediation or other contaminated environments, gloves, eye protection, and coveralls should also be considered. Used filters should be disposed of carefully by placing them in a plastic bag, sealing the top, and following local regulations to prevent the release of captured particles into the air.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for common issues such as the motor not running (check power, wiring, and switch) or scraping noise from the fan (check for obstructions or fan damage). Weak airflow or an illuminated "Filter Change Light" typically indicates obstructed vents/filters or clogged filters, necessitating cleaning or replacement. For any issues not listed, users are advised to contact their local distributor or the Service Department.
