How to fix a Yamaha 40 Outboard Motor when the starter will not operate?
- JJennifer GillAug 9, 2025
If the starter on your Yamaha Outboard Motor won't operate, it could be due to a weak or low battery. The battery connections may be loose or corroded. A fuse for the electric start circuit might be blown, or the starter components could be faulty. Also, the shift lever might be in gear. Check the battery condition and use a battery of the recommended capacity. Tighten the battery cables and clean the battery terminals. Check for the cause of the electric overload and repair. Replace the fuse with one of the correct amperage. Shift to neutral. If the starter components are faulty, have them serviced by a Yamaha dealer.
