What to do if my Yamaha Outboard Motor engine will not start but the starter operates?
    • E
      elizabeth87Jul 31, 2025
If your Yamaha Outboard Motor's engine won't start but the starter is working, consider these possibilities: the fuel tank may be empty or the fuel may be contaminated or stale; the fuel filter might be clogged. Also, the spark plugs could be fouled or of an incorrect type, or the spark plug caps might not be fitted correctly. Check if the engine stop switch lanyard is attached. Ensure that you are using the correct starting procedure. Inspect the ignition wiring for damage or loose connections. If these steps don't resolve the issue, the fuel pump or ignition parts may be faulty, or the engine's inner parts may be damaged, requiring servicing by a Yamaha dealer.

Why does my Yamaha Outboard Motor engine idle irregularly or stall?
    • V
      Vanessa JohnsonAug 9, 2025
Irregular idling or stalling in your Yamaha Outboard Motor can stem from several causes. The spark plugs may be fouled, of an incorrect type, or have an incorrect gap. The fuel system could be obstructed by a pinched or kinked fuel line, or the fuel filter might be clogged. Using contaminated or stale fuel can also cause this issue. Furthermore, the warning system might be activated. If these aren't the cause, the ignition parts may have failed and require servicing by a Yamaha dealer.

If the starter on your Yamaha Outboard Motor isn't working, check the battery condition and use one with the recommended capacity. Ensure battery connections are tight and clean. Inspect the fuse for the electric start circuit and replace it if blown, after checking for the cause of the overload. Make sure the shift lever is in neutral. If these steps don't resolve the issue, the starter components may be faulty and need servicing by a Yamaha dealer.
