Overview

This document describes the assembly, activation, and usage of an extra battery for Yamaha YDX-MORO®, YDX-MORO Pro®, YDX-MORO 05, or YDX-MORO 07 e-Bikes. This extra battery is provided as part of the Yamaha Bicycles EXTRAvaganza promotion.

Function Description:

The device is an additional battery pack designed to power Yamaha e-Bikes. It serves as a primary power source or a backup for extended rides, offering increased range and flexibility for the user. The battery is provided in a "sleep" mode and requires activation before its first use.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Assembly Tool: Requires a 3 mm hex wrench (Allen® key) for assembly.
  • Tightening Torque: The screws for the end cap should be tightened to 2.0 N-m (0.20 kgf-m, 1.5 lb-ft).
  • Components: The battery pack includes the main battery unit, a plate, a composite end cap, three cylindrical washers (collars), three long hex-head screws, and one shorter hex-head screw.
  • Warning Label: The battery features an orange-and-black warning label that should face upwards during assembly.

Usage Features:

  • Activation: Before first use, the battery must be activated. This involves connecting the battery to the charger and ensuring the LED lamp on the battery turns on. Activation is confirmed once the LED lamp is lit. Specific instructions for charging a removed battery can be found in the Owner's Manual (YDX-MORO/YDX-MORO Pro, page 67; YDX-MORO 05/YDX-MORO 07, page 62).
  • Storage for Future Use:
    • For long-term storage, the battery does not need to be fully charged.
    • It should be stored with one or two battery capacity indicator LED lamps lit.
    • Avoid storing the battery completely empty or fully charged, as this can affect its service life.
    • The battery capacity should be checked monthly, and if the indicator lamp is flashing, it should be charged for approximately 10 minutes as per the manual.
    • Detailed storage procedures are outlined in the Owner's Manual (YDX-MORO/YDX-MORO Pro, page 74; YDX-MORO 05/YDX-MORO 07, page 69).
  • Regular Use or Backup for Long Rides:
    • When switching between batteries or carrying a fully charged extra battery as a backup, proper precautions must be taken.
    • If carried in a backpack or other bag, the open contacts on the battery should be masked or taped off.
    • The battery should be packed carefully to prevent movement or damage from impacts.
    • Refer to the Transport procedure in the Owner's Manual (YDX-MORO/YDX-MORO Pro, page 74; YDX-MORO 05/YDX-MORO 07, page 69) for more information on safe transport.
  • Assembly Process:
    1. Prepare a clean workspace and unpack the battery components.
    2. Position the battery with the orange-and-black Warning Label facing upwards.
    3. Place the plate and end cap onto the battery, ensuring all holes align with the threaded holes in the battery.
    4. Place a cylindrical washer on each of the three longer screws, with the wider collar end against the screw head.
    5. Insert the three longer screws into the three lower holes and the shorter screw into the upper hole.
    6. Lightly finger-tighten each screw, ensuring the end cap is properly aligned.
    7. Using a 3 mm hex wrench, tighten each fastener in a cross pattern to ensure even pressure and prevent damage to the composite end cap. Tighten securely but do not overtighten, adhering to the specified torque of 1.5 lb-ft (2.0 Nm).
    8. Double-check all fasteners to ensure they are securely tightened and that the end cap is firmly attached without gaps or loose parts.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Capacity Check: For stored batteries, check the capacity once a month and charge for about 10 minutes if the indicator lamp is flashing, as instructed in the manual.
  • Professional Assistance: If uncomfortable with battery assembly or lacking the proper wrench, users can visit a Yamaha dealer or contact Yamaha Power Assist Bicycles Customer Relations at 1-800-962-7926 for assistance.
  • Safety Precaution: Do not drop the battery pack or subject it to impact, as this could cause it to become hot, catch fire, and result in serious injury or property damage.
