Overview

This document is an operator's manual for an MTD E765F snow thrower, providing comprehensive information on its function, operation, maintenance, and parts.

Function Description

The MTD E765F is a snow thrower designed to clear snow from various surfaces. It features an auger system that collects and discharges snow, and a track drive system for propulsion. The device is equipped with controls for steering, speed, and chute direction, allowing the operator to manage snow removal effectively.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: E765F
  • Engine: The manual refers to a separate engine manual for specific details, but it's a gasoline-powered engine with an electric starter option.
  • Power: Gasoline-powered, 120-volt AC household current for the electric starter.
  • Drive System: Track drive with multiple forward and reverse speeds.
  • Auger: The auger drive clutch engages and disengages the augers.
  • Chute: Adjustable chute crank for directing snow discharge.
  • Housing: 26-inch blower housing.
  • Friction Wheel: The friction wheel rubber is a wear item, requiring inspection and replacement after 25 hours of operation or when signs of wear/cracking appear.

Usage Features

Operation

  • Starting: Requires inserting an ignition key, checking fuel, and following specific starting procedures for both manual and electric start. The engine throttle should be in the fast position during operation.
  • Speed Control: A shift lever allows selection of five forward speeds (1 slowest, 5 fastest) and two reverse speeds (R1 and R2, R2 faster).
  • Steering: Left and right track controls assist in steering. Squeezing the right control turns right, and the left control turns left.
  • Snow Discharge: A chute crank directs snow discharge. Clockwise rotation discharges to the left, counter-clockwise to the right.
  • Track Lock Lever: This lever has three positions:
    • Transport: Raises the front end for easy transport and can be used on gravel driveways to clear snow without disturbing gravel.
    • Normal Snow: Allows tracks to be suspended independently for continuous ground contact.
    • Packed Snow: Locks the front end to the ground for hard-packed or icy snow conditions.
  • Skid Shoe Adjustment: Skid shoes can be adjusted to a low position for close snow removal or middle/high positions for uneven terrain. Operating on gravel is not recommended due to the risk of throwing objects.
  • Safety: Always wear safety glasses or eye shields. Keep hands and feet away from rotating parts and the discharge opening. Exercise caution on gravel surfaces and when operating in reverse.

Safety Practices

  • Training: Read the manual thoroughly. Familiarize yourself with controls. Do not allow children under 14 to operate; those 14 and over require close parental supervision. Do not operate while intoxicated or impaired.
  • Preparation: Inspect the area for foreign objects. Disengage clutches and shift to neutral before starting. Wear adequate winter clothing, avoiding loose items. Wear appropriate footwear.
  • Fuel Handling: Extinguish all ignition sources before handling gasoline. Do not refuel indoors, while the engine is running, or when hot. Wipe up spills.
  • Adjustments: Do not make adjustments while the engine is running, except as specified.
  • Foreign Objects: If a foreign object is struck, stop the engine, remove the spark plug wire, inspect for damage, and repair before restarting.
  • Vibration: Excessive vibration indicates a potential problem; stop the engine and inspect.
  • Discharge: Never direct discharge at bystanders or windows. Only use attachments and accessories approved by the manufacturer.

Maintenance Features
