Why Yard-Man 247.27432 Lawn Mower engine cranks but won't start?
    • I
      icurryJul 30, 2025
If your Yard-Man Lawn Mower's engine cranks but doesn't start, several factors could be at play. Ensure the throttle or choke is in the correct starting position as detailed in the operation section of the manual. Check if the gasoline tank is empty and fill it if needed. A plugged fuel line or in-line fuel filter could also be the culprit; remove and clean the fuel line, and replace the fuel filter if necessary. Verify the spark plug lead is connected. If there's no spark, use a spark tester to check for spark and have the engine’s magneto serviced by an authorized engine dealer if needed. Also, refer to the engine manual to check the air cleaner.

Adjust the speed selection to a lower ground speed. Check the cutting height and raise the deck if it's set too low. Additionally, if you're experiencing uncut strips, the blades may be dull, so sharpen or replace them.

    Why Yard-Man 247.27432 engine smokes?
    • C
      cvaughanAug 17, 2025
If your Yard-Man Lawn Mower engine is smoking, it could be due to a few reasons. First, check the engine oil level, as the engine oil may have been overfilled. Another potential cause is the engine losing crankcase vacuum, which could be due to a dipstick that is not seated or broken; replace the defective part. The engine breather may also be defective and need replacement.

If your Yard-Man Lawn Mower engine won't crank, it could be due to several reasons. First, make sure the safety switch button is fully depressed by the actuator. Check the battery installation, ensuring the negative terminal (marked with “NEG”, “N” or “-”) is connected to the black ground wire and the positive terminal (marked with “POS”, “P” or “+”) is connected to the thick red wire going to the solenoid. A dead or weak battery could also be the problem; charge it with a 12-volt automotive-type battery charger at six amps for one hour or until fully charged.
