DESCRIPTION

These high efficiency, compact units employ induced com-

bustion, reliable hot surface ignition and high heat transfer

aluminized tubular heat exchangers. The units are factory

shipped for installation in upflow or horizontal applications.

These furnaces are designed for residential installation in a

basement, closet, alcove, attic, recreation room or garage

and are also ideal for commercial applications. All units are

factory assembled, wired and tested to assure safe depend-

able and economical installation and operation.

These units are Category I listed and may be common vented

with another gas appliance as allowed by the National Fuel

Gas Code.

This document describes the YORK GY8S*UH / LY8S*UH series of gas-fired, high-efficiency, single-stage upflow/horizontal furnaces, available in standard and Low NOx models, with natural gas input ranging from 40 to 130 MBH.

Function Description

These furnaces are designed for residential and commercial heating applications. They utilize induced combustion, reliable hot surface ignition, and high heat transfer aluminized tubular heat exchangers to achieve high efficiency. The units are factory-shipped for installation in upflow or horizontal configurations and are suitable for basements, closets, alcoves, attics, recreation rooms, or garages. They are Category I listed, allowing for common venting with other gas appliances as per the National Fuel Gas Code.

Important Technical Specifications

Efficiency: 80 AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) as determined by DOE Test procedures.
Input/Output: Ranges from 40 MBH input (32 MBH output) to 130 MBH input (104 MBH output).
Airflow: Nominal airflow ranges from 1200 CFM to 2200 CFM.
Cabinet Widths: Available in 14-1/2", 17-1/2", 21", and 24-1/2" widths.
Total Unit Amps: Ranges from 9.0 to 14.0 amps.
Air Temp Rise: Ranges from 25-55°F to 40-70°F, depending on the model.
Max Outlet Air Temp: Ranges from 155°F to 170°F.

- Note: Line contact is permitted for horizontal installations between the rear panel/side panel intersection and building joists/studs/framing.

Usage Features

Installation Flexibility: Easily applied in upflow, horizontal left, or horizontal right installations without conversion.

Multi-speed Blower: PSC direct-drive blower motor with multiple speeds to match cooling requirements.
Adjustable Fan-Off Settings: Eliminates "cold-blow" by allowing adjustment of the fan-off delay.
Compact Design: 40-inch height facilitates installation in confined spaces.
Low NOx Models: Designed to meet specific code requirements.
Propane Convertible: All models can be converted to propane (LP) operation using an accessory conversion kit (1NP0347). This conversion must be performed by qualified personnel.
Horizontal Sidewall Venting: Approved for use with auxiliary power vents (Fields Controls Model SWG-4Y or Tjernlund Model GPAK-JT) for applications where vertical venting is not possible. Requires 4" (10.2 cm) diameter pipe with a minimum length of 4.5 feet (1.37 m) and a maximum length of 34.5 feet (10.82 m) with up to 4 elbows.
Thermostat Compatibility: A wide selection of compatible thermostats is available, including manual change-over electronic non-programmable, auto/manual changeover electronic programmable (deluxe 7-day), and auto/manual changeover electronic programmable. Standard terminals are provided for controlling humidifiers and EACs.
High Altitude Pressure Switches: Not required for altitudes less than 8,000 feet. Kits are available for altitudes above 8,000 feet (1PS0301 for 40, 60 MBH; 1PS0302 for 80 MBH; 1PS0311 for 100, 115, 130 MBH). Conversion must be performed by qualified personnel.

Filter Performance: The unit's performance is rated without filters. Filter pressure drop values are provided for disposable, washable fiber, and pleated filters to help determine system airflow with a filter in place. Recommended filter sizes are provided based on CFM and cabinet size. Air velocity through throwaway filters should not exceed 300 feet per minute. Airflows above 1800 CFM require return from two sides or one side plus bottom.
