This document describes the York Split-System Air-Cooled Evaporator Blower, models LEU360, 480, and 600, designed for 30, 40, and 50-ton applications.
Function Description
The LEU line of evaporator blowers is engineered to condition large building spaces with flexibility in installation and air discharge patterns. These units are split-system air-cooled evaporator blowers, meaning they work in conjunction with condensing units to provide cooling. They are designed with two distinct modules (blower and coil) to maximize application flexibility. The 30 and 40-ton units are shipped as single packages with the blower module mounted on top of the coil module, which can be repositioned in the field. For 50-ton units, the blower and coil modules are shipped separately to simplify handling and offer similar field connection flexibility. The units can be arranged for various air discharge patterns in either horizontal or vertical positions, and can be bottom-supported or ceiling-suspended to meet diverse space or duct requirements.
Important Technical Specifications
The evaporator blower units feature multiple coils with pre-piped distributors, expansion valves, and solenoid valves for part-load operation and non-recycling pumpdown. Each evaporator coil is pressurized with air to 325 psig and leak-tested under water. After brazing and installation, the coil is further pressurized with a combination of refrigerant-22 and nitrogen to 150 psig for additional leak testing, then evacuated, dehydrated, and charged with refrigerant-22 for storage/shipping.
The blower module includes blower wheels and space for a field-mounted motor and drive. The coil module contains direct expansion coils, 1-inch throwaway filters, liquid line solenoid valves for capacity reduction and pumpdown, thermal expansion valves, distributors, and a condensate drain pan.

Electrical Data (Table 15):
- Motors are 1750 RPM with a 1.15 service factor.
- LEU600 motors require external protection (starter with overloads and periodic lubrication) and have a solid base. Other motors have inherent protection and permanently lubricated ball bearings.
- Various HP motors (5, 7.5, 10, 15 HP) are available for different voltages (200, 208, 230, 460V, 3PH-60Hz).
- Maximum wire lengths, fuse sizes, and minimum disconnect switch sizes are provided for each motor/voltage configuration.
Usage Features
- Flexible Performance: LEU360 and 480 can be positioned in up to 12 different ways and suspended. LEU600 offers up to 7 different arrangements and suspension options.
- Part Load Operation: Multiple coils with pre-piped distributors, expansion valves, and solenoid valves allow for economical operation and maintain more even temperature and humidity levels.
- Non-Recycling Pumpdown: Includes a solenoid valve to pump refrigerant into the high side of the system when cooling is not required.
- Accessories:
- Base Sections (30 and 40 ton only): Elevate units, allow for outdoor air intake (with modifications), and match unit finish. May require insulation.
- Suspension Packages: Suspend horizontal units without interfering with access, or elevate floor-mounted units for condensate drain trap installation. Compatible with vibration isolators.
- Hot Water Coils: Field-installable between blower and coil modules, drainable, copper tubes mechanically expanded into aluminum fins, leak-tested, and match unit dimensions/finish.
- Steam Coils (LEU360 only): Field-installable between blower and coil modules, pitched for condensate drainage, copper tubes mechanically expanded into aluminum fins, leak-tested, and match unit dimensions/finish.
- Blower Motors: Different HP motors are available to meet air delivery requirements, UL approved, with permanently lubricated ball bearings (except LEU600 motors). Field-mounted within insulated cabinet to minimize sound transmission.
- Drive Packages: Different size pulleys and belts provide a wide blower RPM range. Variable pitch motor pulleys allow adjustment for proper blower RPM. Rated at least 25% above nominal HP rating of the blower motor. Two-groove pulleys and two belts for 5 HP and above.
- Starters and Heater Elements (50 ton only): Required for LEU600 motors which lack inherent protection.
Maintenance Features
- Ease of Service: Serviceable expansion valves are factory-installed, requiring no unbrazing for service.
- Removable Panels: Unit enclosures have removable panels for easy access to internal components for maintenance and service.
- Filter Rack: Includes a filter rack with 1-inch filters.
- Clearances: 24 inches on one side for piping connections and blower motor access, 1 inch on the opposite side, and 1 inch on the rear.
- Coil Installation: Hot water and steam coils slide out of their casings for easy installation.
Guide Specifications
- Warranty: 1-year limited parts warranty.
- Documentation: Current production with published literature for performance, limitations, specifications, power requirements, dimensions, operation, and appearance.
- Drive: V-belt drive rated at least 25% above required HP, adjustable to meet exact CFM.

- Blower Motor: Mounted within insulated cabinet, service factor of 1.15.
