Do you have a question about the Zanussi ZCF 37 C and is the answer not in the manual?
This document describes the Zanussi ZCF 37 C Chest Freezer, an appliance designed for domestic use, specifically for the storage of edible foodstuffs. It is not intended for commercial or industrial use.
The Zanussi ZCF 37 C is a chest freezer primarily used for freezing and storing fresh and frozen foods. It features a single compartment for both freezing fresh foods and storing already frozen items. The appliance is designed to maintain low temperatures to preserve food for extended periods.
The freezer should be placed horizontally on a firm surface, resting on all four feet/wheels. A wooden block or similar object can be used to compensate for any bumps/holes in the surface. The room should be dry and adequately ventilated. It is crucial not to place the freezer close to heat sources such as radiators or chimneys, nor in direct sunlight. If the freezer has been handled standing on end, it should be allowed to stand in its normal position for about 12 hours before being switched on to allow the refrigerant to settle. Ensure the appliance is easily accessible for an engineer in case of a breakdown.
Before first use, remove all packaging and securing tapes. The interior should be washed with lukewarm water and bicarbonate of soda (5ml to 0.5 litre of water). Avoid using soap or detergent as the smell may linger. Dry thoroughly.
Insert the plug into the wall socket. A green pilot light will illuminate, indicating the appliance is switched on.
The temperature within the freezer is controlled by a thermostat located on the lower front of the cabinet. To operate, turn the thermostat control beyond the 'O' position. For initial startup, a medium setting (e.g., 3-4) is suggested. The settings range from '0' (Off) to '7' (Highest setting, maximum cold). Allow the freezer to run for several hours before placing food inside. Do not fill the freezer to more than 5mm below the top edge. If the thermostat is accidentally left at the coldest setting, the freezer will not be damaged, but energy will be wasted.
The lid is fitted with a tightly closing sealing strip to prevent moisture entry and reduce frost formation. When the lid is opened, the air inside warms and expands. Closing the lid cools the air, which can create a vacuum, making it hard to open immediately. This is normal; wait a few minutes for the vacuum to subside before gently opening. Never use excessive force on the handle.
It is important to freeze fresh food quickly to minimize the impact on food already in the freezer. If more than 3-4kg of food is to be frozen, turn the thermostat to the coldest setting '7' 6-24 hours before placing the food in the freezer. Place the food in the freezer and leave the thermostat at '7' for another 24 hours. After 24 hours, return the thermostat to the normal setting.
When starting the freezer for the first time or after it has been out of use, run the appliance for at least 2 hours at the coldest setting '7' before storing frozen food. Do not exceed the manufacturer's recommended storage period. Avoid frequent lid opening or leaving it open longer than necessary.
Deep frozen or frozen food can be thawed in the fridge or at room temperature, depending on the time available. Small food items can be cooked from frozen, though cooking time will be longer. Any frozen food that thaws accidentally should be eaten as soon as possible or thrown away. If uncooked and not completely defrosted, it can be cooked and then refrozen. Defrosted cooked food must never be refrozen.
If there is a power failure during the storage of frozen foods, keep the lid closed. Do not defrost the food without checking its condition. The hold-over time for this model is 18 hours.
The freezer compartment will gradually accumulate frost. This should be removed with the provided plastic scraper when the frost thickness exceeds 1/4". During this operation, it is not necessary to switch off the power supply or remove foodstuffs. However, when the ice becomes very thick, a complete defrosting should be carried out, ideally when the appliance is empty.
Important during defrosting: A temperature rise of frozen food packs during defrosting may shorten their safe storage life. Never use sharp metal tools to scrape off frost from the evaporator, as this could damage the appliance beyond repair.
Before any maintenance or cleaning, always switch off the appliance and disconnect it from the electrical supply. Clean the inside and accessories with warm water and bicarbonate of soda (5ml to 0.5 litre of water). Rinse and dry thoroughly. Never use detergents, abrasive powders, highly perfumed cleaning products, or wax polishes to clean the interior, as these will damage the surface and leave a strong odour.
Wash the outer cabinet with warm soapy water.
If the appliance will not be used for long periods, disconnect it from the electricity supply, empty all foods, and clean the appliance. Leave the lid open to prevent unpleasant smells.
This product should be serviced by an authorised engineer, and only genuine spare parts should be used. Do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself, as this may cause injury or serious malfunctioning. Contact your local Service Force Centre.
When disposing of the appliance, use an authorised disposal site. Remove the plug and ensure that any locks or catches are removed to prevent young children from being trapped inside.
