This document is a user manual for a Zanussi hob, model ZGG66424, providing instructions for its safe installation, use, and maintenance. It is intended for users in Great Britain (GB) and Ireland (IE).
Function Description
The Zanussi hob is a gas cooking appliance designed for household use. It features four gas burners: one Triple Crown burner, two Semi-rapid burners (one front, one rear), and one Auxiliary burner. Each burner is controlled by a dedicated knob, allowing users to adjust the gas supply from an off position to an ignition position (maximum gas supply) and down to a minimum gas supply. The hob is equipped with an ignition candle for lighting the burners and a thermocouple safety device that interrupts the gas supply if the flame goes out.
Usage Features
Ignition and Flame Control:
To light a burner, the user must push down the control knob and turn it counter-clockwise to the maximum gas supply position. The knob should be held down for up to 10 seconds to allow the thermocouple to warm up and prevent the gas supply from being interrupted. Once the flame is regular, the user can adjust it. If the burner does not light after 15 seconds, the knob should be released, turned to the off position, and the ignition process attempted again after at least one minute. In the event of an electricity absence, the burner can be ignited manually with a flame, following the same knob operation procedure. The spark generator may start automatically when the mains are switched on, which is normal.
Turning Off the Burner:
To extinguish the flame, the control knob should be turned to the off position. It is crucial to turn the flame down or switch it off before removing pans from the burner.
Cookware Usage:
The manual provides guidelines for appropriate cookware diameters for each burner type to ensure maximum stability and lower gas consumption. Users are advised to place pots centrally on the burner and ensure pot handles do not extend beyond the front edge of the cooktop. It is cautioned against using cast iron pans, potstones, earthenware, grill, or toaster plates, as they can tarnish the stainless steel surface if overheated. Unstable or damaged pots should not be used. Cookware should always be stable, with the correct shape and diameter, and larger than the burner dimensions. Empty cookware should not be activated on the cooking zones.
Safety Precautions During Use:
The appliance and its accessible parts become hot during use, so care must be taken to avoid touching heating elements. Children under 8 years of age should be kept away unless continuously supervised. Unattended cooking with fat or oil can be dangerous and lead to fire; never try to extinguish a fat/oil fire with water, but switch off the appliance and cover the flame with a lid or fire blanket. Flammable products or items wet with flammable products should not be placed near or on the appliance. The cooking process, especially short-term cooking, must be continuously supervised. Metallic objects like knives, forks, spoons, and lids should not be placed on the hob surface as they can get hot. The appliance should not be operated with wet hands or when in contact with water. It should not be used as a work or storage surface. When placing food into hot oil, splashing may occur.
Maintenance Features
General Cleaning:
The hob should be cleaned after each use. Cookware with clean bottoms should always be used. Scratches or dark stains on the surface do not affect hob operation. A special cleaner suitable for the hob surface is recommended.
For enamelled parts, caps, and crowns, they should be washed with warm soapy water and dried carefully before reassembly.
Stainless steel parts should be washed with water and dried with a soft cloth. For stubborn stains like burnt food or fat, they should be soaked for a few minutes in a mild detergent solution before cleaning. Cleaning products specifically designed for stainless steel should be used to protect the surfaces. Corrosive chemicals, disinfectants, stain removers, rust removers, or immersion cleaners should not be used.
Spark Plug Cleaning:
The ceramic ignition candle with a metal electrode should be kept clean to prevent difficult lighting. Ensure the burner crown holes are not obstructed.
Pan Supports:
Pan supports are not dishwasher-safe and must be washed by hand. They should be removed for easier hob cleaning. When replacing them, care must be taken to prevent damage to the hob top. Enamel coatings may have rough edges, so caution is advised when washing and drying them. Stubborn stains can be removed with a paste cleaner. After cleaning, ensure pan supports are correctly positioned.
Periodic Maintenance:
The user manual recommends contacting an Authorised Service Centre periodically to check the condition of the gas supply pipe and the pressure adjuster, if fitted.
Troubleshooting:
The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as no spark, flame extinguishing immediately after ignition, or an uneven flame ring. For instance, if there is no spark, users are advised to check the electrical connection, the fuse, and the correct placement of the burner cap and crown. If the flame extinguishes, ensure the thermocouple is sufficiently heated by holding the knob down for 10 seconds. If the flame ring is uneven, check for blocked burner crown holes. For issues not resolved by troubleshooting, users should contact an Authorised Service Centre, providing information from the rating plate.
