The Zanussi ZUAN22FW is a freezer designed for household and similar applications, such as farmhouses, staff kitchen areas in shops, offices, and other working environments, as well as by clients in hotels, motels, bed and breakfast, and residential type environments. Its primary function is to freeze fresh food and store frozen and deep-frozen food for extended periods. The appliance is equipped with a temperature regulator for manual temperature adjustment, allowing users to select a setting that best suits their needs, considering factors like room temperature, door opening frequency, quantity of food stored, and appliance location. A medium setting is generally recommended for optimal performance.
A key feature of this freezer is the FastFreeze function, which is designed to perform pre-freezing and fast freezing in sequence. This function accelerates the freezing of fresh food, thereby protecting food products already stored in the freezer from undesirable warming. The FastFreeze function activates for 52 hours automatically but can be manually deactivated at any time. The freezer also includes a High Temperature Alarm that alerts the user with a flashing light and sound if there is a temperature increase, for instance, due to a power failure or an open door. The sound can be silenced by pressing the alarm reset button.
The freezer compartment is marked with four stars (****), indicating its suitability for long-term storage of frozen food products. It is equipped with cold accumulators to increase storage time in the event of a power cut or breakdown, enhancing food safety during emergencies.
Usage Features
The manual provides detailed guidance on using the freezer effectively. For freezing fresh food, it is recommended to activate the FastFreeze function at least 24 hours before placing the food in the freezer. Fresh food should be stored evenly distributed in the fourth compartment or drawer from the top. To maximize freezing efficiency and thawing, food should be divided into small portions and wrapped and sealed in appropriate materials like aluminum foil, plastic film, bags, or airtight containers with lids. Users are advised to label and date their frozen food to track its shelf life and prevent deterioration.
The freezer drawers are designed for easy access to food packages. For storing large quantities of food, all drawers except the bottom one can be removed to ensure good air circulation. The manual also includes a "Shopping Tips" section, advising users to buy frozen goods at the end of their grocery shopping, transport them in an insulated cool bag, and place them immediately in the freezer upon returning home to minimize defrosting.
Important usage precautions include not freezing bottles or cans with liquids, especially carbonated drinks, as they may explode. Hot food should not be placed directly into the freezer; it should be cooled to room temperature first. To prevent frostbites, users are warned not to eat ice cubes, water ices, or ice lollies immediately after taking them out of the freezer. Maintenance Features
Maintaining the Zanussi ZUAN22FW involves regular cleaning and defrosting to ensure optimal performance and hygiene. The interior and all internal accessories should be washed with lukewarm water and a neutral soap before the first use and periodically thereafter. Door seals should be checked regularly and wiped clean to ensure they are free from debris. Harsh detergents, abrasive powders, chlorine, or oil-based cleaners should be avoided as they can damage the finish. The accessories and parts are not suitable for washing in a dishwasher.
Defrosting the freezer is a crucial maintenance task. The manual recommends defrosting when the frost layer reaches a thickness of about 3-5 mm. To prepare for defrosting, users should set a lower temperature approximately 12 hours prior to build up sufficient chill reserve. During defrosting, the appliance should be switched off or unplugged, and all stored food should be removed and placed in a cool location. The door should be left open, and the floor protected from defrosting water with a cloth or flat vessel. To speed up the process, a pot of warm water can be placed inside the freezer compartment, and an ice scraper should be used to remove ice pieces. The supplied plastic scraper can be inserted into the appropriate seating at the bottom center to collect defrost water. After defrosting, the interior must be thoroughly dried before switching the appliance back on and returning food to the compartment. Users are cautioned against using sharp metal tools or mechanical devices to scrape off frost, as this can damage the refrigerant circuit.
For periods of non-operation, the appliance should be disconnected from the electricity supply, emptied of all food, defrosted, cleaned, and left with the door open to prevent unpleasant smells.
